Teaching English this month has been nothing short of exciting. Each day brings new challenges, laughter, love, and anything and everything in between.

Take a glimpse into yesterdays activities:

7:30-We waited for our tuk-tuk downstairs in the dorm.

8:00-The tuk-tuk finally arrives. Better late than never. We pile six of us inside and hope no one falls out.

8:30-We arrive at school thirty minutes late and head to our first class. I walk up the stairs and take off my shoes before entering the class. I walk into class and the students say hello with their morning greeting.

8:45-We finish reviewing vocabulary from the day before and head to the front for circle time. We open up our books to read a short story and take turns pronouncing words and reading. We then play hot potato but with a marker and to the tune of the days of the week song. The kids are so excited and want to win and not get out. This results with a couple of the boys beating their chest like they are king of the class.

9:00-One of my kids ask me about Jesus. They want to know who He is and what He does. I get to tell them Jesus loves them all very much and He is always with us.

9:15-We wrap up class with a dance party.

9:30-I head back downstairs for a quick break. I get offered dragon fruit to try. Kids are running up and down the halls yelling and screaming with their snacks in their hands.

9:45-I read a book with a couple of the kids that are sitting on the couch. I head over to the singing area and attempt to sing some nursery rhymes (which I may have forgotten the majority of the words to).

10:00-Kindergarten class begins. We practice our animals and have a coloring page to go along with it. Each child gets one colored pencil to color their sheet with. The calm before the storm hits. They color really well for about eight minutes. Then the madness ensues. Kids begin to cry. Kids begin to run around the room. Kids are sitting in the corner wailing. I still have a little control though with half of the children.

10:15-This is when I notice the puddle forming on the floor, not sure where it is coming from. I then figure out which kid has had an accident. The other children became restless from coloring and going over the animals. I have lost control along with the other two teachers in the room (pretty typical in the Kindergarten class). A kid is currently laying on the desk doing snow angels. One kid is running in the room naked at this point. Then that is when it happened…a kid jumped from the desk and landed in the pond of pea, back down. (picture the scene from pitch perfect with the vomit but replace with pee and kindergartners and you have my class for about twenty minutes)

10:30-The craziness has been calmed some and we gather the children to take them to a small playground area. I watch the kids while the other teachers clean the floor and the little girl who had an accident.

11:00- We go back to our classroom and everyone sits back down. We sing a song and we tell each other see you later.

Teaching English has been absolutely insane. I wouldn’t trade the chaos for anything though, getting to share the love of Jesus with these kiddos is absolutely worth it!
