6:45 AM- Time to wake up.
7:00 AM- Breakfast. We ate a scoop of rice with a scrambled egg stir fry mixture.
7:30 AM- We head back to the house. I spend time sitting on the back patio, praying and listening to worship music.
8:30 AM- Kids camp starts! I lead the group in a few kid songs.
9:00 AM- Station 1: Sports! Last week I did the bible story every day. This week, I am the counselor for 11 girls. My group started at sports. Kristen led us in a game that involved throwing 3 different sized balls (beach balls, volleyballs, and tennis balls) with your forearms and elbows.
9:30 AM- Station 2: English! Kamiren leads the group in Cat Face (our version of hangman. It’s much nicer to draw a cat than a person hanging.) The girls all get to guess letters, and they repeat the word in sentences once they get it. They reviewed words like breakfast, cloudy, and library.
10:00 AM- Station 3: Bible story! Paige tells the group to count the number of rocks in the gravel sidewalk. She uses that as an illustration to lead into the story of Abraham and Sarah. The story finishes early, so we play a few rounds of life-sized rock, paper, scissors.
10:30 AM- Station 4: Games! Our final station is led by Gabbie. In the first game, everyone is holding hands in a circle around a stool. You have to pull each other to try to make other people touch the stool to get out. The second game involved laying on each other’s stomachs and increasingly saying “ha” until someone really laughs.
11:05 AM- Camp ends. We have a small amount of free time. We hang up our laundry to dry and brainstorm ideas for our skit for next week.
11:45 AM- The lunch whistle rings! For lunch we had a scoop of rice and a vegetable that was a combination between a potato and a cucumber. We also had banana nut bread.
12:15 PM- Team time. I lead our team in a listening prayer activity. After spending about 15 minutes in prayer and worshipping together for a few songs, everyone got a piece of paper with a number 1-8. They asked the Lord what He wanted to say to that person. We wrote down words, scriptures, and even drew pictures. At the end, everyone drew a number 1-8 and received that corresponding card. We trusted that God already knew who would draw each number, and the words He spoke to us to write would go to exactly the right person.
1:30 PM- We put our swimsuits on and grab our towels! We pile into the back of a son-tow.
2:00 PM- We arrive at a really nice swimming pool. We spend time playing around in the water with the girls. We teach them how to play chicken and how to float on their backs.
4:10 PM- We come back to the house. We are starving, so we fix ourselves bowls of cereal.
5:00 PM- Dinner time. We eat a scoop of rice, a chicken vegetable broth, and more banana nut bread.
5:30 PM- Our team plays a game called Coop. It’s a bluffing game where you have to try to collect coins and assasinate other players. It’s a lot of fun.
7:00 PM- Worship starts. Tonight is a little different. Instead of meeting under the pavilion, we have a campfire! We sit on rugs in the grass around a large fire. We sing (listen to) a few Thai worship songs.
7:15 PM- The girls are grouped by age and perform choreographed dances.
7:45 PM- They finish their dances and insist that all the World Racers dance. We had absolutely no preparation for this. We were able to pull up the song Church Clap by Lecrae and perform that very simple line dance.
8:00 PM- After the rest of the staff dances, we whip out the marshmallows! The roasted marshmallows are delicious and only slightly tasted like bug spray leftover on my hands. We eat and dance around to fun songs.
8:45 PM- We lay down on the rugs and gaze at all the beautiful stars.
9:20 PM- We all hold hands in a circle. We spend time praying and worshipping around the dying fire.
9:45 PM- We say goodnight to the girls. They give us countless hugs.
10:00 PM- We have a short meeting with our host to plan for our medical clinical tomorrow.
10:15 PM- Team meeting. We debrief our day, give feedback, and pray for each other.
11:20 PM- I am finishing this blog and am about to go to sleep. There’s another full day ahead tomorrow.
