Each Monday since arriving in Manzini, we have had devotion at the Adventures In Missions office at 9:00 AM. I was pretty excited about this since it would be an opportunity to see how the Swazis and missionaries who are the feet on the ground here in Swaziland operate. After the first Monday morning devotion, our host asked us to split up into teams and meet the staff that works in the different departments. After devotion I ended up speaking in length with our host, Xolani, about who knows what, but I was so caught up in our conversation that I didn’t realize that my team had left to meet people in different departments. By the time I was done speaking with Xolani, my team, and all the other teams for that matter, were in rooms with the doors closed. I couldn’t find anyone so I went back to the lobby area and sat on a couch in the corner to wait.

After sitting there for a few minutes, a cute little girl came up to me and said, “Hi.” We chatted for a little bit, as much as any 6 year old Swazi chats with a 27 year old American, until she crawled into my lap and fell asleep. 30 minutes went by when a beautiful Swazi woman came and sat by me. Her name was Tamara and she was the mother of the precious 6 year old, Eliana, sleeping on my lap. We spoke for a while and ended up talking about a nonprofit that her and her husband were in the process of launching. The more she told me, the louder the still small voice in my head got… “Share their story! Create a launch video for them! I have big plans for this family and they need you to help them mobilize! Share their story!” By the end of our conversation I had no doubt in my mind that it was not by coincidence that this family walked into my life. I offered to help mobilize them by creating a video and sharing their story.

Ambassadors of Hope Introduction:
Ambassadors of Hope is an emerging organization made up of dynamic young people with a passion for making a difference in the country of Swaziland and beyond.

Whilst the unemployment rate in Swaziland continues to rise, we noted how young people of our impoverished communities waste their minds, energy, and time on things that do not improve their lives.

Having established a good working relationship with traditional authorities, we decided to embark on a journey to inspire young people in our community to discover, develop, and live their dreams which will see us having better communities. Our dream is to see young people of our communities living their dreams.

AOH wants to see the youth of Swaziland taking positive actions towards improving both their living standards and communities through youth programs that the organization will design. We aim to achieve this through mobilizing, inspiring, and equipping young people with information and skills they require to make their communities a better place.

This will be achieved through mentorship and leadership programs, income generating projects, and compassion ministry. As Lao-Tzu once noted, “A journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step.” We also believe that this youth initiative marks the beginning of a long journey where young people will realize their dreams.
