I am excited for the future. I am excited to graduate. I am excited for prom.  I am excited to take 9 months to travel, to serve, and completely leave everything familiar. I am excited to meet all the people I’ll be traveling with. I am excited to see what the Lord has to teach me. I am excited to see what next week holds, as well as the next 10 years. I am excited for the future.

These are all good things, and I refuse to apologize for being excited for the what’s next in life. Although, I have recently been learning to look less into the future, but rather look day to day; to live in the moment and appreciate each small moment.  With only 9 months left at home I have been going on more hikes, and taking longer drives. I have learned to appreciate the mountains, trees, and on a good day… the ridiculous amounts of rain.  These moments will pass by quickly, and I don’t want to miss what’s right in front of me because I am too busy dreaming about the future. We have been given today, but not promised tomorrow.

After looking at the way things are on this earth, here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live.” Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

I challenge you all to join me in this, whether it be a 2017 resolution, a goal for this week, or something you only think about for a minute, join me in living in the moment, enjoying the small things, and simply appreciating the gift that is today.
