This past week my team received info for our next month’s assignment and got caught up on the details. Pastor Melvin gave us a good reminder to focus on the present. I was convicted and want to focus on our current ministry, not worry about what the future holds.
So this coming week I am pouring my heart and work in my church Iglesia más que vencendores which translates to more than conquerers which comes from the passage in Romans 8; specifically verse 37.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerers through him who loved us.”
Alone this verse does not make much sense as it is answering a question however, if you look at the few verses before it points to the ‘things’ being trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or sworn which can’t separate us from the love of God. He intercedes and is there when we call for help.
I am inspired by this church community; they have church not only on Sunday but everyday of the week. We have a church service on Sunday and Wednesday nights, a prayer & worship night on Monday, Thursday is dance practice for the service, Friday is the youth service and game night and ending the week on Saturday night with small groups and another dance/worship practice. Church is not just a place to come once a week and here a message and sing some songs; it’s a lifestyle. It is so encouraging to see God being at the top of their priority list and seeing a community supporting each other daily and lifting each other up.
God keeps reassuring Pastor Melvin that this community needs him and this church has to be here. God is interceding with providing the rent when it’s due and money to keep the lights on. He is providing connections to Pastor Melvin to reach out to the local schools to teach and share. We were able to go to a public school and hand out biblical magazines to all the classes last week and share our love for the Lord with these kids and were accepted well by the teachers and the principal which has not happened in the past. He is a highly respected man here which is opening more doors and building bridges to further reach his community; God’s provision is very evident and inspiring!
To keep focused on the present I thought I needed another eye…
Yes, I ate an eyeball right out of the fish’s skull.
…And don’t forget to smile 🙂
