Life with Jesus is meant to be a liberating adventure!
These 11 months through Asia, Africa, and South America have been life changing and perspective changing. We’ve seen and done things I never thought we’d encounter like falling in love with a family in Rwanda and wearing their baby on my back or ministering to crack addicts on a dark street in Colombia. We’ve see the ocean and sunsets and elephants, and although I’ve loved every minute of it (…most of them), I’ve never once questioned my excitement level to come back home to my family. I’ve sent a list of the snacks I’m most excited about to mom (Triscuits and hummus, Snyder’s honey mustard pretzels, and avocados!) and planned our first meals together (Chick-fil-a and sushi) and I’ve been looking forward to the moment where I can drop my bags on the floor and flop into my bed for a month-long hibernation.
…God has different plans. When did God call us to get lethargic and comfortable and live the most convenient life possible?
I’ve been asked to lead a mission trip for college students (“Passport”) this July in Zambia!! Although I’ll barely be home long enough to scarf down that Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, I have given another bold YES.
The team I will be leading is a co-ed team of 7 college students ages 18-22 and the ministry we will be serving alongside is Africa 4 Jesus.
Africa 4 Jesus Vision Statement: To run Sustainable Discipleship Schools where we Train Mission Minded and Mission Active Disciples from all nations, equipping them in fulfilling the Great Commission through their unique callings.
Africa 4 Jesus Ministry Summary: the ministry has a core team of 5 members who work across denominational lines with the focus of making Jesus known to the least and the lost, we do leadership training, evangelism and discipleship and we do skills training and help start/support community schools in rural areas.
Type of ministry the team will help with: High school and college ministry, community schools in the village, evangelism, young adult camp, sports ministry, community feeding program.
Food: The food we eat will be local and international meals including nshima (Zambian staple meal) rice, pasta, bread fruit and the like, which will be prepared by teams.
Lodging: The team will stay at the team-house part of the time and we will stay in the bush/village too. Our team will stay in tents during our time in the village.
I’m trusting God that I’ll be able to raise the $2,500 needed for airfare, food, lodging, and international medical insurance to get back to the place where my soul felt most alive, AFRICA, in just under 2 weeks!
If you have questions you are more than welcome to email me and set up a time to talk or facetime!
If you’re willing to support me in this mission one more time, you can Venmo me @JanineBrannis or give my parents a check for me.
