“As iron sharpens iron one man sharpens another.”
-Proverbs 27:17
This weekend I got the absolute JOY of meeting some of my squad mates (people who will be traveling the world and serving with me on the World Race). Part of the World Race journey is learning to serve on the mission field with a community of believers. As a squad we have decided to start building this essential community NOW! We have had several video and phone chats and have broken into groups in which we go through different types of bible studies. I love doing these!!!! Getting to know these amazing people and their hearts over the last few months has been beyond amazing and I’m sure it will just get better and better. I am so grateful for the calls….BUT this weekend I actually got to spend some face to face time with 16 of my squad members and it was SO GREAT!!!
My heart is so full, it feels as if it will just burst. I have never felt so encouraged and blessed by a group of people in my life. The amazing part, this was just a small part of our squad. There are many more precious hearts to meet, get to know, and grow with. The verse I shared above really shows the attitudes of the people I met this weekend. They are so giving and already I see such servant hearts who seek to glorify God with their lives and challenge those around them to do the same. That encourages and challenges me to look at myself and ask God what needs to be refined by Him in my life and heart so I can prepare myself to be the best squad member that I can be. God has so beautifully chosen and orchestrated this team and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for us as we embark on this journey. We won’t be the same when we return. He is going to break us, shape us, and continue to make us more like Him every step of the way. One of my teammates was talking about how He chose us for this. I had never thought about that. Yes, I see this as a calling, but I guess I have never thought about the fact that God chose to call me to this. He didn’t have to. I don’t deserve this, none of us do. Yes, we accepted it and chose to say yes. But this is God’s doing and let me tell you, He knows what He is doing! ?
I am BEYOND excited for what God is doing and will do during preparation for the race, training camp, and during the race. I love my squad and I am sure that will only grow as I get to know these people better and the 40 or so other precious people I will soon meet. We are all in this together. It’s not an easy journey, but I wouldn’t choose to walk this with anyone else! I hope this post encourages my squad as much as they have encouraged me. I also hope it encourages all that are following my posts. Because guess what??? Though you may not be on the squad that is physically going on the race with me, in my mind you are defiantly on my support squad! I couldn’t do this without your prayers, encouraging words, and financial support. Please keep following my journey, you are just as much a part of this incredible journey! I love each one of you and am so grateful for you! Whatever your part is, it’s important and I couldn’t do it without you! 86 days till training camp….about 150 days till launch!!! IS THIS REAL LIFE????
