A couple of weekends ago one of my best friends got married, there wedding was simply beautiful. They are both young but so deeply rooted in Christ and passionately in love, which radiates when your around them. Their wedding got me really thinking but not necessarily about marriage but about the “American dream”. Most people grow up thinking one day I’ll graduate college, get married, get a home, have some children, have a good job, a good life and so on…
But when you google American dream it defines it as the ideal that every US citizen should have and equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. This “American dream” is pretty backwards if your a christian were taught that our hard works, and determination do not get us anywhere in the kingdom. Its not about our works that earns us the success that we long for in life, God says that we have earned success by loving him and speaking the gospel. God calls us to the great commission which is found in Matthew 28:19-20. This verse says therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This promise from God is to be with us until the end but to fufill his commission to go before the nation and proclaim his name, how awesome but at terrifying at the same. God of the universe calls us to come along side him and fulfill his works by sending us out to go to the nations to speak of him, but what an honor it is to do this and be with him always. What an honor it is to serve the lord in this type of way, what an honor it is to be in his presence always, and what an honor it is to be his daughter.
