So I’ve been home now for a little over a week now from training camp and I’m still trying to process everything that happened in those 10 days. Training camp seriously changed my perspective on the World Race and my outlook on my time that I have left at home.
It’s going to be really hard to sum up 10 days in just one blog but I am going to try so here it goes…
My tent became my home, showering with a bucket was normal, mystery meals were an everyday adventure, 50 complete strangers became my new family that I’ll do life with for the next 11 months, and my view of God was radically changed. However before going to training camp I wasn’t too thrilled, to be completely honest I was content with staying at home and skipping training camp. (Like that was an option or something) Anyways a few days in I got to know some pretty amazing people and they soon changed from being strangers who lived all across the US to people I enjoyed being around. We bonded over strange meals, gross port-a-potty talk and the anticipation of what was going to happen that day. Let me just say I was blown away by all things that we did and that happened at training camp. The first few days we pressed in to dealing with our emotions, past, and our true identities. To say these first few days were emotionally draining would be an understatemnt but it was definitely needed. This created that initial bond between the squad and began to build our relationships to a deeper level, people were willing and vulnerable to share their stories to what seemed to be strangers who just became family. (Definitely all a God thing)
The next few days we were pushed more physically and were challenged in new aspects like our 2.2 mile hike with our 40lb packs, loosing our packs, sleeping in an “airport”, camping out and cooking our own food. Although these days pushed us to exhaustion they grew us closer and we began to bond and hang out more which has prepared us for when we do leave the country, Anyways stay tuned for more of our adventures as we leave for India in 37 days!!!!!
Here is a picture of the squad and my team!!
