This past Sunday, my team and I went to an African church on the campus we live at. The worship was wonderful (and complete with dancing), the congregation was welcoming and encouraging to us, and then the preacher began his sermon. Hands down, it was the best sermon I have heard in quite some time.
The pastor began by reading a few passages from different books of the Bible, all having to do with eagles. The main verse he spoke about was Isaiah 40:31
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
After reading this verse, the pastor explained that our job is not to BE and eagle, it is to be LIKE an eagle. And how can we be like something if we do not know about the thing we want to be like?
He spoke of how eagles protect and provide for their young, how they fight for their prey, but it was the last point that stood out to me the most.
“Eagles can fly up to 10,000 feet in the air. In order to get away from the enemies that are attacking them, they fly straight towards the sun. The enemies are blinded by the light, and must give up attacking the eagle because the sun is too bright.”
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. If we are supposed to rise on wings like eagles, then Christ allows us to fly straight towards Him, and He will take care of the rest.
Any darkness that threatens us cannot stand looking into the light; that is, our Father.
What are your enemies? Depression? Anxiety? Whatever form of darkness it may be, it has no right to be in your life, and if you fly straight towards the Light, it cannot survive.
1 Thessalonians 5:5, “We are all sons and daughters of the light and sons and daughters of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”
Fly towards the light. Your good Father WILL take care of the rest.
