Yesterday the dream I’ve been dreaming since the second grade came true. I stepped foot onto Guatemalan soil.
11 years ago my parents decided that they wanted to adopt. Actually I’m pretty sure they always wanted to adopt but 11 years ago is when Jesus presented the opportunity to my family. I remember seeing the first pictures of Hall. He had the chubbiest cheeks ever and he was adorable. I told every single person who would listen about my soon to be little brother in Guatemala, and how someday I was going to visit his country. I can tell you exactly what I was doing on February 28th 2018… the day Hall came home. (I was drawing a pic of the Great Wall of China in art class by the way)
Coming to Guatemala. A dream of a little girl that has finally come true. I’ll admit I thought that I wasn’t going to come to this beautiful country until after I had finished school, gotten a job and had a steady income. It doesn’t feel real. IM IN GUATEMALA! Even when I signed up for this route and got accepted it didn’t seem like it was truly going to happen. And yet I’m sitting on a law chair in the Hostal Antigueño courtyard writing this blog. I honestly can’t express the emotions I have been feeling since I crossed the border. And to make this experience even better in 2 months I will get to work and explore alongside my parents!
The people, the art, the buildings, and the nature in this country have taken my heart and I have been here for a day and a half. I have many second homes… but this is where my heart will stay. So this Emry Brandenburger… who has accomplished her number one dream in life after only 6 days into the new year saying HOLA FROM GUATEMALA
