This woman is a widow and has lost her son…”

Yes, she is a widow and three of her family members also passed away…”

“Her mother is dead, so she lives with her grandmother who lost her husband…”

DEATH.

There is so much death here in Zimbabwe. My team and I had the privilege of doing house visits a few days ago for ministry. We went with a few of the locals who are caregivers for children with HIV/AIDS. These caregivers often visit the sick children to check in on them and pray for them. We got to join with them in visiting 15 different families.

The stories of each family got worse after each house we went to. At first the mother was taking care of her children and they were in school. But then at the next house the mother had passed away from HIV. And at the next house the children weren’t in school because only the grandmother was taking care of them and couldn’t afford the school fees because she was a widow. And then no one had electricity or running water. And then on top of all of that the head of the household (always the grandmother) was sick herself.

Widowed grandmothers turned mothers again to take care of their grandchildren. Children unable to go to school because school fees are too expensive. Sick grandmothers who can’t afford hospital fees to get a check up. Every child sick with HIV/AIDS.

God, why do you allow this to happen?

I have never been to so many houses where the story is very much the same. And all of it is sad.

Zimbabwe needs help. From us and from the Lord. Please pray with me as I pray for strength for the grandmothers who have to work and care for their grandchildren. Pray for the children who are too sick to attend school many days. Pray for the children who can’t afford to go to school. Pray for the broken families who have lost husbands and brothers and cousins. Pray for all the death in Africa. Pray that this land could be healed and God would bring restoration to this nation.
