The first four months of the Race I was on a co-ed team. I was told that having boys on my team meant that I would be doing a lot of manual labor work. WRONG. Never once did my first team have to do any manual labor.
Coming onto an all-girls team, I imagined tons of kid ministry and not much else. ALSO WRONG. We have had two months (Thailand and Bulgaria) that have included some demanding physical labor. Thankfully my team truly enjoys manual labor! We like having a ministry where we are able to look back and see what we have accomplished. To see what we started with and see how we have finished.
A lot of months of ministry, we don’t get to see the results of the hard work we put into it. Many months just include building relationships and loving on people – nothing that is exactly tangible. Not to say those months are harder than the others, but it is nice to be able to see the fruits of our labor.
I love the diversity of ministry that we have had over the past 8 months. I have helped with manual labor, preaching, teaching English, children’s ministry, teaching theological students, prison ministry, cooking, cleaning, and so many other things. I thank the Lord for all the new skills that He has allowed me to learn over the course of this year. And it’s not over yet so I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
