Sitting next to a hammock with a sleeping baby rocking back and forth. Small and frail she sits with her perfected Asian crouch. A widow from the genocide that took place in the 1970s. She takes care of her grandbaby while her daughter works at a factory all day.
She is the ONLY Christian in her entire village. I will call her H.
Could you imagine if every single person around you did not believe the same thing as you? If you had no one to talk to about your faith or struggles?
H is so tired out. Her knees are tired. Her back is tired. Her spirit is tired. But she isn’t giving up. She is still willing to fight for her family and village.
Even her sister-in-law who lives right next door does not believe in Jesus..
We had the privilege of praying for H’s sister-in-law. She does not believe in Jesus but that doesn’t stop her from having incredible and infectious joy. It also didn’t stop US from praying for her hurting foot. She has tons of callouses and a huge lump on her foot from all the hard work she has done in her life. I don’t know the exact cause of all of it. But we prayed over her foot anyway. After we prayed, nothing happened immediately in that moment, but we were still grateful for the opportunity to share the gospel with her and pray for her.
The next day when we returned to the village, the sister-in-law was so excited to see us. She had to leave right away to visit her brother who was sick but not before telling us how much better her leg felt!! I didn’t realize it at first, because the callouses were still there, but I didn’t even notice a lump anymore! I was completely amazed by what God had done. HE HAD HEALED HER. She told us (through the translation of the students) that the pain she had once had in her foot was almost completely gone. Her gait had also improved significantly. God is so good. Such an incredible Healer.
We will continue to pray for her so that she will come to believe in Jesus and believe that Jesus is the one who healed her rather than Buddha.
We pray that H’s whole family will come to know Christ. We pray that her whole village will come to know Christ as well.
We weren’t afraid to pray the big prayers. To pray for healing over a woman who does not believe in God. To pray that the WHOLE VILLAGE will come to know Christ. To pray for strength and encouragement for H.
Pray big prayers. Expect God to show up. Don’t forget He is faithful.
