A little over a month ago, one of my squad mates posted a video of a song called The Cause of Christ by Kari Jobe. As someone who enjoys hearing her sing, and is personally drawn to Jesus by her songs, I checked it out. The first verse goes as follows:
The only thing I want in life
is to be known for loving Christ.
To build his church to love his bride,
and make his name known far and wide.
As soon as I heard that , I was hooked. My heart was so overwhelmed with joy and beauty, that I could literally feel my heart crying. It was in that moment as I felt and sensed The Lord draw near to me, that He reminded me of what my purpose in life is: The Cause of Christ and making him known.
There is a God-sized need of Him and who He is, to be shared in this world. God through this song brings me back to what is really important: Himself and the Gospel that brings with it the power of Salvation (Romans 1:16).
The Gospel or Good News is so simple, yet it is the most life transforming truth that will ever be. It is the truth and evidence of how much our God loves us.
At one point in time, a long time ago, after the creation of the world, humankind lived and walked with God. Then one day we disobeyed and rebelled against God by doing what He told us not to do. This caused man to be separated from God and an enemy of God, deserving of His wrath and punishment. As time went on, God still loved us and cared for us, and so He gave us His standard of perfection in written form called commands or the Law. We however, still messed up and rebelled against God and were unable to keep God’s commands. But, God knew that and still had a plan to save us from death. God chose certain people to communicate his plan to the rest of the world. This plan involved a virgin and a baby that would be known as The Chosen One or the Savior of the World. The time had come, and God in the form of a man named Jesus entered the world exactly as it said He would; through a virgin girl named Mary. Jesus lived a perfect life. He was the only one who kept and fulfilled the same commands that we were given, but could not fulfill or keep. Jesus paid the ultimate price for the disobedience and rebellion that we caused. He took the punishment and wrath of God that we deserved on himself by dying on a cross. Because of his obedience and death on the cross, all of the wrong that the World has done or will ever do, was punished. He was then buried and after three days came back to life to show his victory over death, and that ALL authority was given to him. It is because of Jesus that the world is saved. Our job or what we have been asked to do is trust in Jesus and what he has done and who he is and we will be saved (John 3:16) and to turn from our life of sin and follow HIM.
If I was Jesus, I would want the entire world to know too: Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15 This gift that God gave us, that we did not earn or work for, not only allows us to be with God forever but we also
Are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1)
Children of God (John 1:12)
Set Apart (1 Peter 2:9)
Clean (John 15:13, Acts 10:24)
Free (Galatians 5:1)
and Forgiven, just to name a few.
It does not matter who you are, or what you have done, God still desires ALL to turn away from sin, and have life and freedom and Salvation (2 Peter 3:9) Some people think that because them or someone else struggles with a certain sin or does too much wrong that they cannot be saved. That is False. Romans 5:15-16 says this Good News cannot be compared to the sins of one man, and that this free gift justifies you or makes you right with God.
God is so amazing and merciful and Loving. He should be proclaimed and followed. Earlier, I stated hat God showed me through the song that my purpose is the Cause of Christ and making him known. This is not entirely true. This is not just my purpose, but the purpose of every believer and follower of Jesus. NO matter what you do or where you are, you should do it for the glory of God (Colossians 3:17) and that living is Christ and dying is gain (Philippians 2:19-20) There is a need in this world for Jesus and his light, and we get to make him known and continue the work HE started (John 14:12-14).
My favorite part of the song is the end:
It is not fame that I desire,
nor stature in my brothers eye.
I pray it’s said about my life,
that I lived more to build your name than mine.
