Please enjoy this revelation that came to me.
Also, I apologize in advance for the way the blog is written haha. I wanted to have fun with it and write it like I was a professional water-expert who was giving a presentation at an elite conference full of water-drinking fanatics. However, as it stands, I’m not at a professional anything, I’m not at a conference, and I’m not giving a presentation, so I am deeply sorry for any confusion this may cause. But with this setting in mind, please enjoy the humor that (I hope) is transferred through your screen hahahaha.
“Good day!
I come before you today to speak about one thing: the importance of drinking water.
Before I get started, I would like to offer you my credentials so you can understand why I am worthy of presenting my topic of information to you:
1- I’ve been alive for 23 years. For those of you lifting your eyebrows, this is a crucial tidbit of information. If I hadn’t been drinking water, I wouldn’t have made it this far.
2- See credential number 1.
Good, glad that’s out of the way. Now let’s get down to the meat of why you are all here.
Kapeesh?
Drinking water is not as simple as it sounds, so listen closely to how. You should be drinking about three quarters of your body weight in ounces between the time you wake up to the time that you fall asleep. Now, I’m not just talking a one and done shindig. You can’t suppose that drinking all of this water in one sitting just to check the box off will get your body hydrated.
If Karen over here were to pound 90 ounces of water in one sitting she would only flush her system. Her body would be incapable of absorbing all the water in the time frame it’s given, and the water will end up just running through Karen. The next time she uses the bathroom, she will pee most, if not all, water. (Sorry, Karen. I hope you aren’t embarrassed by us talking about your bathroom usage… *Karen’s face turns beet red and I awkwardly fumble to the next point in my presentation*).
Water is most effective in hydration for your body when you drink it all throughout the day. A sip here, a sip there gives your body time to absorb the water and soak it into your cells. Water is your friend. Take it with you everywhere, drink it consistently throughout the day, and help your body out by drinking enough of it.
So, let’s say you aren’t drinking water. What happens then? I am glad you asked!
Drinking water is crucial for life. Because if you don’t drink it, you will get dehydrated. Your cells will be deflated, your body won’t be able to function like it’s supposed to, you will become weak, sick, faint, and if you continue not to drink it, one of two things will happen: you will either be admitted in the hospital for an IV or you will die.
Now, in extreme cases, such as, say, George’s encounter with diarrhea in India, (Ahh, yes, George, we all remember), his body was losing water faster than he could replenish it. As a result, he was admitted to the hospital where he was given an IV, which pumped water into his system 24/7 to ensure he stayed hydrated and, ultimately, alive. Once he was healthy from his sickness, he was then released from the hospital to continue drinking water like a normal human being again.
In the cases where drinking water is not an option and an IV is not available, death will surely ensue if a long enough period passes. I say this, not to scare you, but to emphasize…
Water… Drink it.
That is all I have for you today.
Thank you!
I will be signing autographs in the back of the auditorium if you feel so inclined to bring your water bottles to me.”
Hi, it’s me again! Back as Diana, your regular ole’ small town 23-year-old girl who is currently on a mission trip in India and honestly knows very little of anatomy and science and is secretly hoping her high-school science teacher isn’t face-palming reading this blog…
If you’re still reading this, kudos to you! Thanks for supporting me so much, hahaha! I hope that was as enjoyable for you to read as it was for me to write.
Though I did write this blog ‘cause I love to write and wanted to evoke a few chuckles (regardless if they were sympathy chuckles or not… I see you, Dad…), I really did have a revelation regarding drinking water. As I was sipping on some water one particular late afternoon on my week long vacation, overlooking a beautiful body of water with rolling mountains covered in trees behind it, and listening to David Crowder tunes, I was contemplating the important hydrating qualities of water which I noted above in the “presentation”.
And it struck me.
Sitting with Jesus daily is far more important than drinking water. Hydrating the spirit is 10x more crucial than hydrating the body. And yet, we all walk around emphasizing how we need to keep our bodies hydrated while our spirits lie deflated and dying.
Most of us, who have not been drinking in Jesus daily appear fine… that is until our spirits scream for refreshment. When we finally realize that we’ve been neglecting it, we rush to the hospital (the church, our friends, a counselor, honestly probably wherever you turn in an emotional crisis) to get pumped with an IV (the truth of the word, the Lord’s voice, anything that you can grab onto that will keep your spirit from rocking into permanent emotional turmoil). Unfortunately after everything is normalized in our spirits again, we think everything is fine and continue neglecting to be with Jesus until the next IV emergency because we are “too busy”.
Or some of us drink in Jesus like we flush our bodies- we’re too lazy to sip on Him throughout the day, so instead we try to cheat the system. We set aside a large portion of time one day a week, or one day a month, lap up His presence, and then put Him away to do it again next week or next month. Our spirits survive until the next checkpoint, not quite needing an IV, but remaining flat and dehydrated, more empty than full, barely surviving, let alone thriving.
If we want to get the fullest out of life- if we want our spirits to thrive just as our bodies, to remain hydrated, energetic, fully functional, we need to drink in Jesus all day long- to let our souls absorb the truth of His character, His word, and His voice constantly. Unlike hydrating our bodies, our spirits need 3x more Jesus time than anything else they do all day.
Don’t just rush to the emergency room to get an IV every time you have an emotional crisis, don’t flush your system just to survive. Rest and hydrate with Jesus daily, hourly, with every passing minute. Then when a crisis arises your spirit will be fully functional to handle it with clarity. When you are in a desert season, your spirit will be hydrated on the Truth of the word. And when you are asked to run a spiritual race, your spirit will be prepared to run at maximum speeds all the way through the finish line.
That’s all I have for you today, folks!
Pee clear(er) and rest in Jesus hourly, hehehe.
Until next time,
Diana
