So as we finish up our time on the World Race I have been looking back and thinking about some of the highlights from the past year. I wanted to make a blog that not only shared my experiences but also could be used as a sort of guide for future racers so that they will know what things to try and things to look out for in certain countries. So without further ado, here are my World Race Superlatives!!…

And the Awards Go To:

Best Music Festival: Hungarian Music Festival in Subotica, Serbia

Best Food: Malaysia (Even the American fast food is better here!)

(Honorable mention for Linden, South Africa. Our host church spoiled us all month with delicious home cooked meals and braai’s!)

Best Clothes Shopping: Mr. P in South Africa

Most exotic things eaten: Pig Heart (Serbia), Cow Tongue (Serbia), Cow Stomach (Romania), Crickets (Thailand), Chicken Neck (Zimbabwe), and Crocodile (Zimbabwe).

Favorite Adventure Days: Scuba Diving in Thailand, Victoria Falls, Tour of Athens, and everything we did in Johannesburg (Gold Reef City Theme Park, Lion Park, and Apartheid Museum)

Best Airport: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

(Singapore was also a very nice airport, but it was so big it was easy to get lost in)

Sandals of Choice: Teva (Almost every Chaco broke down at some point, but not my Teva’s!)

Most Dangerous Situations: Camping in Lesotho on a mountainside during a thunderstorm and our van getting caught at gun point by protesters in Haiti and then being left stranded in the road while they shot at each other behind us.

Most Scenic Country: Lesotho

Most Exotic Animal Touched: Cheetah

Wonders of The World Seen: Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), Angkor Wat Temple (Cambodia), Acropolis of Athens (Greece)

Olympic Experiences: We saw Olympic training centers for Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Greece. We also saw one of the sites from the 2004 Olympic games in Greece as well as the original Olympic stadium in Athens which featured an Olympic torch museum where you could see almost all of the Olympic torches from over the years.

Number of Tattoos on The World Race: 1 (Johannesburg, South Africa)

That’s all I can think of at the moment, but I’m sure there are plenty more that aren’t mentioned here. We are excited to get home and share our story with everyone. God did a lot of amazing things this past year and the stories of salvation’s and deliverance’s are countless. If you haven’t gone and checked out our new website and blog yet it’s dameronmissions.org. The visions and goals you’ll read about there are what God has been doing with us on the World Race. We hope you’ll check it out and continue to follow us on our mission!
