This past Wednesday we started ministry at the prison here in Mokhotlong Lesotho. The prisoners with the help of our ministry host Oliver were able to start a bible study group/church in the prison. The study group started with just several inmates but has now grown to about 60 of the 100 or so inmates housed in the prison.
leading up to the visit Jace our squad leader asked if Bella, Sam, and I would be willing to share our testimonies and speak hope and guidance into the men. I agreed not really knowing what to expect or what the outcome would be. When we arrived at the prison we were guided into the courtyard where the inmates had already began a time of worship. Once the men settled down we were asked to introduce ourselves and share what we had planned. Bella was the first to share, followed by Sam, and ending with me.
My turn came and I began to share what I had loosely prepared for the group. I spoke about how I was a headass in early high school and how I was involved in drugs and partying. I explained if I had kept on pursuing a lifestyle like that that jail one day could have been a possibility. I encouraged the men in the prison to understand that their past mistakes are not what define them. Gods grace and love trumps all and that no matter what they might have done in the past can and will be forgiven if they’re willing to follow Christ. anyone willing to change can turn their life around.
after I finished sharing a young man stood from the audience and approached the translator. He was young there was no way he was older than me. He asked the translator to tell us he wanted to accept Christ into his life and that he would love for Sam and I to pray over him. Sam and I were both blown away that this was happening. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before, it was such a beautiful experience. Hands down one of the coolest experiences one the trip.
