I have another fun tool that was shared with me at our week of debrief. It was so great that I can’t keep it to myself! 🙂

Our Adventures in Missions leadership team flew to Peru from the United States to stay with us for one week. Their vision behind this is it to help us debrief our time on the Race as well as give us some helpful tools for growth, depth in our relationship with Christ, and ways to better understand/love ourselves and others.

So what I’m sharing with you are a list of values to read through and split into 3 groups:

Group 1: Your top values. What do you value the most in life whether it is in yourself and/or in others. [Something I did was combined some of them if they went hand in hand. For example I put ‘friends & family’ together because I value friendship so much that they are practically family to me.]

Group 2: Things you still value but that don’t quite make it to group 1.

Group 3: You can live without these values.

**It may be easiest to copy and paste the values in a word document and go from their.

Here are the values:

Open-mindedness
Autonomy
Hope
Flexibility
Competence
Effectiveness
Variety
Diversity
Humor
Decisiveness
Freedom
Risk Taking
Intelligence
Teamwork
Harmony
Growth
Security
Communication
Friendship
Discipline
Spirituality/Faith
Patience
Empathy
Simplicity
Health
Happiness
Respect
Strength
Honesty/Integrity
Beauty
Productivity
Achievement/success
Courage
Service
Truth
Trust
Equality
Love/affection
Quality
Loyalty
Independence
Dependability
Recognition
Family
Friendship
Wisdom
Prosperity/wealth
Competition
Power
Creativity
Innovation
Challenge
Curiosity

Now pick your top 10 from Group 1.

(If you have a lot, that’s okay. This one was a little tricky for me because I had around  20 values in this group).

When you have those 10, try to narrow it down to your top 5 values.

My top 5 values ended up being:

Love/affection
Harmony
Growth
Family/Friends
Beauty – Personally it is more of an inner beauty that I am drawn to in others and an area I desire to grow in myself. Seeing someones heart in how they love and care for others is beautiful to me. Also, when people take care of themselves and it shows in their physical appearance as well, I am inspired — Examples: healthy diets, exercising, taking time to rest instead of always being on the go, self-discipline. This is something that I care about greatly for myself as well. I want to be a good steward of the one body God gave me.

Personally, I found this super helpful not only because it helped me better pinpoint my own values but I got to learn the values of the people I am currently doing life with. I found out that a lot of the ladies on my team value love/affection which leads to great conversations about how to love them better. My friend and teammate Kayla has competence as one of her top values. Knowing that, I can better love her by giving my all in different tasks and not doing it half-halfheartedly. I can also volunteer my help to take the load off of her…. she is my team leader and all and I know it can be a lot to handle at times. My friend Stephanie highly values creativity so I know I can always go to her to give me pointers on anything that has to do with creativity. And by doing this, I know she feels loved and valued!

I want to encourage you to share this with your friends and families as well! You can let them know that you truly want to learn more about them and how to make them feel even more seen and loved!

Also, I’d appreciate if you’d leave a comment or send me a message with your top 5 values!! 🙂

Sending love your way from Peru!!
