LOVE
It’s a word used quite loosely these days. In today’s culture, love has become a feeling defined by desire, a voluntary emotion, and an uncontrollable passion. This is not the love taught to us through Scripture though. 1 John 4:16 defines love by stating “God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” Love is the greatest evidence of God on earth. Love isn’t defined by extreme affection or emotion, but by sacrifice.
The greatest commandment in the bible is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and the second is the “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36-40). The best expression of faith is not in a person’s actions or feelings, but in how they love.
God calls us to live out this commandment to everyone in the world. I am so grateful to know the love of Jesus and have the opportunity to share that love with others around the world over the next year. I hope to meet people who have never encountered the true definition of love and share the hope of Jesus with them.
