Before our 6am church service I spent time read through the end of Luke. The conclusion of chapter 24 stood out to me, I learned something new about Jesus after being raised to life.
I knew that the disciples didn’t notice Jesus when He was walking with them. They were blind. But I didn’t know what broke their blindness until this morning. In verses 30 and 31 it describes how Jesus blessed the bread and broke the bread. That was the event which opened the disciples eyes to see the person in front of them, Jesus.
I was in awe of the importance and power of bread, our daily bread. Now I understand why the Lord’s Prayer as the line “give us our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). We need to ask our Heavenly Father every morning, every day for our daily bread because that is how our eyes will change from blindness to clearness. We will be able to see Jesus and His work in and through our lives.
Needless to say, my morning Bible study was fantastic!
But God wasn’t done. He wanted me to share my realization, this important reminder to hundreds of Haitians. And the why He orchestrated it was incredible!
After worshipping and praying in church we all opened our Bibles to John 6:51 which says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will love forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh”. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that. And then we took communion as the body of Christ. We literally blessed and broke bread!
My mind was spinning and my heart was overflowing with joy! I knew God was connecting dot after dot to prompt me to share His word.
After getting the 2 minute notice that we would be introducing ourselves to the church, I asked if I could share a quick message. Our ministry host said we could do anything, even sing if we wanted to. God is so good because I was not prepared to sing, but I was prepared to share a message!
We said hello, explained that we would be serving in Haiti for a month, and introduced ourselves. Then the Holy Spirit led me to remind the congregation about the importance and power of asking for our daily bread.
I’ll be praying for new Haitian friends and you all to ask for your daily bread. And I believe that God will bless them and you all to see Him and His mighty works.
Blessing from the Eastern Time Zone (I still can’t believe we are in the same hemisphere now)!
