Hello friends,

I would like to start by saying thank you for taking time out of your day to read my bio. I must forewarn you, talking about myself is not my strong suit, but I will try my best just for you!

My name is Brittany Dykstra, I am 20 years old. I am the daughter of Brian and Kim Dykstra, and I have one older sibling, Brandon, who is one of my best friends. I was born and raised in Zeeland, Michigan. I am currently studying Social Work and Psychology at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois. I will be graduating this May after my internship in Ecuador.

I love spending quality time with friends and family, sharing laughter with others, eating peanut butter ice cream, going on adventures, playing sports, observing God’s glory depicted through sunrises and sunsets, and serving others.

I believe I am the person I am today because of my upbringing. My faith foundation began when I was born; being raised in a Christian family and community was a blessing. My faith started shaping into my personal faith when I attended Christian summer camps, served on youth group mission trips, invested in a Christian education, lead Trinity’s Serve Trip, and formed friendships centered on Christ.

I would now like to take the time to express my gratitude to you. Our relationship has significantly impacted me. Whether we are family members, friends, classmates, coworkers, or acquaintances, you have demonstrated support, encouragement, and love to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I frequently wonder why God blessed me with this life, a life where I am surrounded by people who love me well and I do not have to worry about my basic needs. Guilt has consumed my life because I have been enjoying life while others are struggling to survive. This is why I made the decision to pursue Social Work and now go on the World Race.

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” -Proverbs 16:9

This Bible verse has been on my heart for awhile. It was not my plan to leave the security of my home and established routine to serve in 11 countries in 11 months. However, I do believe my Heavenly Father has called me to step outside of my comfort zone to grow closer with Him through the unknown experiences I will have on the World Race.

I have been praying, and would greatly appreciate your prayers, for His will to be done. This is my prayer in preparation for the World Race, but also a prayer for my life. I do not want to live a self-centered life where I am solely seeking self-advancement. Instead, I want to live a Christ-centered life where I am shining the magnificent Light of God through sacrificial love.

To conclude I would like to leave you with this powerful Bible verse-

“We know what real love is because Jesus gave up His life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.” -1 John 3:16
