It is so hard knowing where to start. I will try to give you a little update about what is going on so far.
Last Thursday we arrived in India and got plugged into a School of Worship that is led by an amazing man that I got the pleasure to speak with and here a little bit about his life…
His name is Jheven (not sure if that is spelled correctly) and he started preaching the word of God when he was 12 years old. He found a passion for music and now he trains people in music as well as teaching them about the Lord at the same time. He then sends them out to churches to preach and sing the name of the Lord.
I got up around 5am for 3 days to worship with Jheven and a few of his students. They sang in their local language, Hindi, but they also occasionally sang in English. One specific morning they went through a few of the scriptures and it really spoke to me…
“I look up to the mountains- does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble, the one who watches over you will not slumber.” Psalms 121:1-3
“Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.”
These verses spoke to me in many ways:
So stumbling becomes before falling, and it says in scripture that God won’t even allow you to stumble. How powerful is that! He won’t even let you stumble let alone fall.
The first week we had orientation and learned a little bit about the culture of India. We rode in tuk-tuks, went to the mall, and yes, we had rice and curry. Every single day for almost every meal is lovely rice and curry, but its not half bad honestly.
Here are a few things that are unique and some rumors that are true about the country of India…
1. There are no lanes- literally people swerve in and out and never stay in one lane. I don’t know how they don’t get in more wrecks than they do.
2. Head bobble- Look it up on youtube! It is a real thing and they do it so often. It means anything from “okay” to “yes” and even “no”. Really we have no idea, we are just smiling and head bobbing every chance we get to feel like we are apart of the culture.
3. Eating- They do not eat with there left hand because they believe that it is considered dirty. They also don’t shake with their left hand or practically do anything with it.
All-in-all, the people of India are so kind and loving. Here are a few prayer requests and some things me and my squad need prayers for:
1. Energy and sickness- a few of us are getting a little sick and feeling a lack of energy
2. This week we start our ministries! YAY! But with that comes a lot of attack from the enemy, so pray that we can stand against him.
3. Community- that we can become more unified as a squad and continue to love on each other in the good times and the bad times.
I will be posting once a week for the rest of this month. My next blog post will be about the first week of ministry and what all God has been doing here! India is alive and well in the spirit and we would love for you to join us in prayers and love for the people here!
Sadly, the wifi is not letting me upload any pictures, so friend me on Facebook where I will be posting pictures!
