Hi friends! Thank you so much for tuning into a week five update! On September 4th, our squad landed in Kathmandu, Nepal! Nepal is so beautiful! There are beautiful green mountains surrounding the city all the way around, colorful prayer flags, a delicious Nepali meal called mo mo’s, friendly&beautiful people, rooftops on each home and building-the view of the city is so beautiful from up there and the neighbors are seen flying kites and playing! It is so sweet! My team and I love to read the bible, pray, and listen to music up on the rooftops!
This month is called all squad month! All of the teams that were placed in different places within India are now all together in Nepal! There are fifty people on our squad, W-Squad, and newly named Wonder Church, are all together in Nepal! We are living in a pink four story home all together! It is so much fun! I love all of fifty of these new friends who have become one big family!
This week has been our first week of ministry and boy oh boy has it been amazing! Our first day of ministry we went to a Hindu Temple that is located at the highest point in Kathmandu! This Temple is dedicated to conception. People who are having trouble conceiving a baby will come to the Temple to sacrifice burnt offerings to the gods in order to be blessed with a child. It was really interesting to see. We prayed for people to encounter Jesus in the Temple and prayed over the city of Kathmandu. It was so special!
Each day we arrive at our ministry partners home and have an hour of time to pray, read our bibles, and spend time with God. After that, we head out into the city! On the second day of ministry, we prayed for God to lead us to a specific person and what message God wants to share with them. We wrote the message on a piece of paper along with the details of the person God would be leading us to! In my prayer, God showed me a black tee shirt! My friend Erika got a picture of an open window with blue paint inside and purple curtains.
Everyone headed out into the city! I am also convinced we will become iron men and women after this month! Each day we hike about 7-9 miles around the city! After hiking and a bus ride we arrived in this particular part of the city. Right away, I spotted a man in a black tee shirt and felt it to be the man God was leading me to! My team prayed for me and I headed over to the man. He had completed selling another man drugs. The police officer was nearby and waved me an approving wave to approach the man! This was so cool since in nearby countries such as India sharing your faith is forbidden and in the next upcoming weeks new laws are being passed on this topic in Nepal. I approached the man and handed him the paper I wrote about how Jesus loves him and is passionately pursuing a relationship with him. He smiled and accepted the paper.
Our team completed giving away our messages and hopped on a bus back home. It ended up the we hopped on the wrong bus so we decided to step out by the Parliament to walk from there. We got directions on google maps and headed for home! It was starting to get dark as we were walking through the neighborhoods and Erika hadn’t found the purple curtains yet. As we were walking, somebody spotted the purple curtains, open window, and blue paint and everyone became so excited!
About five of us went up the stairs to the window and asked if anyone was home. The light was on, yet no response at the time! After this, we decided we had to get the message to this person since it is so amazing that we found it! My friend Kim tossed the paper into the window and we began to walk away when a man came to the window! He came down the stairs and my friend Erika shared then gospel with him! He was about 30 years old and was so kind! He was a Hindu and lived on the grounds of a Hindu temple. He spoke English and had a couple questions about Jesus! He was so amazed that God had given a woman a picture of his window to come find him!
We were able to connect him to a local pastor and pray for him! God is so amazing! Thank you so much for reading a week five update! That means the world to me!
