Community is:
* clipping your toenails next to someone doing yoga
* popping each other’s pimples when there isn’t a mirror
* wearing each other’s dirty clothes
* cooking meals for 51
* waking up to 15 different alarms
* Doing laundry for anyone and everyone
* Crying together
* Laughing together
* “Have you seen my (Nalgene/Hydroflask)? It’s the one with the World Race sticker.”
* Having chickens thrown in your room at 3 am
* Walking in on people in the bathrooms/showers
* Sharing food
* Stealing food
* Finding out who snores
* Love
The World Race community is unlike any community I’ve ever experienced before, it’s very unique. I could not have imagined loving my squad as much as I do now. Before July we were strangers to each other, and after a month in Swaziland these people are as close to me as friends I’ve had since elementary school. We are no longer in Swaziland, but we are still living together in a hostel in South Africa. On Sunday we will travel to Lesotho, where the squad will be split into teams.
Leaving all squad month is exciting for my introvert soul, but it will also be challenging. My team has struggled with unity the past month due to so many other people being around, and going into a month being just us makes me nervous. As a team, we have to choose into each other, choose into intentional and intimate community, so that we can take the gospel further. We know this won’t be easy, but we are committed to making a change in our team culture to create space for God to move. Continue to pray for us and our transition into a new country, new ministry, and deeper friendships.
