So once again this is a delayed blog…all of the events happened the first or second week in Thailand. This month in Myanmar has brought it’s own adventures, but I’m just a little behind in sharing. 🙂
Often times we miss out on so many opportunities because we have a negative or selfish outlook on life.
In college there were so many opportunities handed to us on a silver platter. Going to a Christian college they provided ample service projects we could take part in. Unfortunately, I did not take advantage of these until my senior year. I finally got involved after some good friends suggested which ministry to join. A group of us girls would go out on Sunday afternoons to one of the local hospices in the area. We would go there to sing, pray, and share God’s word to those that were willing to listen.
This month provided an opportunity to visit a local village and do exactly the same thing. We drove and walked to the patient’s houses. One of our hosts went to school for physical therapy and she was able to check vitals and other things while we visited.
The people in hospice were sometimes grateful, but also sometimes annoyed, or just let us come in to be nice. Then the Thai people who were basically trapped in their homes were so grateful and excited that we were there to pray, sing and love on them.
Perspective changes everything. The people we met in Thailand had a different perspective. Not that those in Florida didn’t have perspective, it was just different.
This one man in his home was grateful to be alive and with his wife even after part of his skull had to be removed after an accident.

One lady was on her bed unable to move for the past ten years. My team and I had complained that our mattresses weren’t always so comfortable. When we sat next to her on her bed our perspectives changed drastically. She lived on a couple of wooden pallets.

Another younger lady we came across had had a stroke, but was still learning and pushing to walk and gain all of her abilities back.

I am thankful that we were able to bless and be blessed by these people, as well as gain some perspective. There are a variety of perspectives and attitudes towards every situation, and it is our choice how we look and react. If we can do it best to see through God’s eyes the world looks very different than most human perspectives.
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2
