I wish you could see it.
Their faces as they watched in wonder.
The curious cats they were.
Some had never seen it in moving color before.
Some didn’t even know what it was.
But we did.
It was our brothers and sisters declaring to the world that Jesus was their personal Lord and Savior. That He had saved, washed and cleansed them.
It was their baptism day.
On display for all the whole world to see…
Okay maybe not the whole world but our small seaside town of Tivat, Montenegro but it was enough.
Enough to strike a chord in their hearts.
Enough to stop what they were doing and watch 15 strangers get baptized in the middle of the ocean.
Several days ago our leadership team offered our squad the opportunity to get baptized here in Montenegro.
15 of them said yes!
So we went out in our swimsuits to the port and did it!
But here is the coolest part, we went to a crowded beach where we drew a fairly large following.
We arrived to swimmers, tanners and walkers and all together they watched.
Stopped what they were doing and were both amazed and curious as to what 54 Americans were doing.
Some approached and asked what was happening because they had never seen a baptism before. LIKE EVER.
Talk about crazy right!!
You see, Montenegro has a very small percentage of Christians. The whole country itself only has 3 Christian churches.
So it’s no surprise that these people were as curious as they were.
Can you imagine growing up in a country, a culture that has no idea of who Jesus is? To have no inkling of a clue that you were sculpted with such precision, grace and love?
I watched my friends get baptized today but I also saw Jesus on display in front of this crowd. My eyes welled up with pure joy because people saw a piece of Jesus through our baptisms today and it was the coolest thing.
Montenegro, Jesus is here and He is eager to meet you. We are eager to meet.
Here’s to more churches, more baptisms and more Jesus in this quaint, cute, little country.
