She couldn’t do it.
But she also couldn’t manage it all.
It seemed like the only option.
An option that would be burned into her memory,
her heart,
her soul for the rest of time.
Placed in front of her were mouths upon mouths to feed.
Bodies upon bodies to care for.
To dress,
To watch,
To house,
To love.
But she was finding herself in a place with
no resources,
no help,
no other option.
Life was leaving her hopelessly deserted.
It placed kids on her doorstep and limited resources to provide for them.
It said, “here is an unbeatable equation. Have fun solving it” and didn’t look back.
An orphanage.
She was desperate and reaching a point where she couldn’t do it anymore.
An orphanage.
She couldn’t care for them not because she didn’t want to but because she couldn’t.
An orphanage.
Her last resort.
An orphanage.
Tears streamed down her face as the thought destroyed her.
She couldn’t do it but knew that if life didn’t deal her new cards soon she would be left with no other option.
An orphanage.
A women with nothing but children who she could not provide for.
An orphanage, a place where no child belongs but somehow ends up.
Children, no voice, no choice, tossed through life.
Life is unfair sometimes.
You look at the hand you’ve been dealt and wonder what made you so lucky…or not.
I didn’t deserve my life but somehow I got it.
Life gives us unbeatable equations. I know I’ve had my own share of them.
But this one is by far the most cruel.
A grandmother forced to decided whether to send her grandchildren to an orphanage because she can’t afford to care for them anymore and a government that doesn’t seem too phased by it.
Life just isn’t fair sometimes.
