From the outside looking in, people may think life on the Race is super glamorous. Days filled with hiking mountaintops, beautiful scenery, and casually galloping through a field of lilies while riding a unicorn….
Right?
Wrong.
Yes, there are moments on the Race when we get to experience some amazing things, but that is normally 2-3 days a month. The majority of our days are filled with experiences like this:
Sleeping in airports and buses become the norm.
And on other days you get crafty and make homemade mayo lice treatments! #thedungeon
Team Time consists of doing “facials”….or becoming Michael Myers….
Sometimes you have to be okay with the fact that you are taller than an entire people group in Asia..
Or when ministry in Nepal consisted of looking like burglars every day because of the massive amounts of dust on the street.
And then on other days you go on a hike in the Himalayas and get attacked by leeches.
Or having team movie nights under your bug nets in Rwanda…
The face you get when a cockroach the size of your hand just crawled out from under your bed on a sleeper train… #backinNam
After living in Asia for 5 months, you have pretty much mastered “The Asia Squat”.
Eating carbs for every meal…for 10 months…
But on “special occasions” you get fed fresh fish that was cooked in mud!!!! (Yes, this is real life.)
Eating fish doesn’t seem so bad when you have to go to the Ethiopian marketplace to get your fruits and veggies while being followed by nearly 70 locals! 🙂
“Pets” on the Race include, but are not limited to, scorpions, spiders, and snails as big as Gary from Spongebob.
Some days you may feel like you can’t handle another day of “roughing it”….but that’s when the good Lord sends our parents to Africa to make all of our Marriott shower/laundry/air conditioning dreams come true!
While being on the Race may be difficult at times, we wouldn’t change it for the world!
