“Tune my heart to sing thy praise (grace)”

Come Thou Fount is one of my all-time favorite hymns. This particular line is one of my favorites of the song and seems to speak to me each time. It’s in this line that I often reflect in my own walk with the Lord. It’s also become a prayer of mine. That the Lord would tune my heart to His. That I’d walk out a life that sings of His grace and praises Him. In that, I often find myself circling back to thoughts or lessons that I thought I’d learned and moved on from. Sometimes I let that hinder me- thinking that I’ve failed to learn a lesson or that I hadn’t made as much progress as I’d thought. The Lord has shown me that this is not true and these “steps backwards” are actually steps that take me deeper with Him in these areas that we go back to. Within the last few months of my race and on this journey of squad leading, the Lord has used the concept of tuning to speak into this area of my life and to provide some clarity and encouragement. I wanted to share that with all of you.

Tuning: a process to bring sounds in unison. It prevents clashing and waves. It creates harmony and beautiful music. It is not a one-time thing. Shifts happen and instruments need to be re-tuned based on environment, placement, and time. Sometimes this requires just a minor tweaking, other times it requires much more of an overhaul. It’s a natural part of the process that it is to make beautiful music.

Just as instruments need to be re-tuned from time to time, our heart does as well. This doesn’t mean that we’ve failed. It doesn’t mean that we haven’t learned a particular lesson. It just means that there’s been a shift, or that the Lord wants to bring us into something new, or that He’s tuning us to new surroundings and community. The closer that we get to being in tune, the more beauty there is. The less dissonance and waves and the more pleasant it is to listen to and enjoy. It’s a constant eb and flow of trusting the Lord and allowing Him to tune our hearts to what He has for us. It’s not the end that we should be looking for, as there won’t really ever be a “there” on this side of heaven, but that’s the beauty and the depth of allowing the Lord to lead us and to guide us into continual growth. He is creating a beautiful song with us, each one unique and for the world to hear. It’s inevitable that in the process, the instrument He is using (you) will need to be tuned throughout the process. Allow Him to do so and embrace the journey.

How has the Lord been tuning your heart lately? What is He preparing you for?

I am currently still in need of financial support to finish out my commitment to F Squad. I know that the Lord has called me here and that He will provide- He already has in so many incredible ways! Will you join me in praying for the rest of the funds to come in? I am still in need of $900. If you feel led, you can donate through the link above.

I’d also love for you to join me in praying for F Squad and the countries that we will live in. Prayer is powerful and is the most important way you can support me and what the Lord has called me to. I send out an email update each month with specific prayer requests- so if you’d like to receive that, comment with your email.

Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement! Thankful for each and every one of you!
