If you read my last blog, you will learn that one of the areas that I am still working on with God is trust. At the end of the blog, I told Him that we will work on it one day at a time. One step at time. And not too long ago, I chose to take one of my biggest steps yet and it is landing me in Spain. Mijas, Spain to be exact. I am so excited to share with you all that starting this March, I will be calling Mijas, Spain home for a little while this year to attend the G42 Discipleship & Leadership Academy.
.: The What? :.
G42 is a Christian leadership and discipleship academy whose mission is to mobilize leaders to plan missional communities that establish the Kingdom of God around the world. The Academy is nine months long and is broken down into three trimesters.
The first three months are spent in the classroom and with a community learning about the core teachings of Christ, developing leadership skills and becoming men and women who cannot be stopped in our pursuit of Christ and His Kingdom.
The middle three months, we are sent out on the mission field to a specific population of people to 1) put in practice all the concepts we learned during the first three months and 2) to learn to live a life that seeks the Kingdom first. A friend of mine put it this way: we are sent out to become a “Timothy to a Paul.”
The last three months, we return to Spain to debrief what we have learned on the field and discussed how we can go back out and become a “Paul.”
.: The When? :.
I initially was scheduled to attend G42 September 2018. However, while on a short-term mission trip in my home country Haiti last month, I was given the opportunity to start sooner. I am not going to lie, I hesitated. Just like I did last November when I first heard God dropped this school on my heart/spirit that was never on my radar in the first place. However, after tons of thoughts, prayers and literally an entire day of tugging at God’s robe like a little girl to have his opinion/approval, I said yes to starting early. So Mijas, get ready: I am super stoked that you get to host myself and some pretty other awesome people who loves Jesus like crazy and wants to be like Him every day.
.: The Why? :.
The World Race rocked my world and forever changed my definition of church and mission work. While I understand that mission work does include the traditional going out to foreign countries and helping, it is much more than that. It is an everyday thing whether it is us going to a grocery store, workplace, or the mall. It is our daily task as believers to go out every day and show each person we encounter the love of Christ one way or another.
Thus, I want to continue that. I want to continue to be Christ representer. And I strongly long to someday be able to create and be part of a something/community (domestic or international) that promotes and shares the Gospel. A community that also seeks to be like Jesus and encourage themselves and others to live by His word. A community that shares life together and takes actions to create change in the world. A community that seeks to resembles and models the one described in the book of Acts.
Practically looking, I am not sure how this longing/dream/desire is going to look like yet. However, there are a couple of things I know for sure. For me to achieve it, the work needs to start with myself first. Second, I know that I have been convicted by the Holy Spirit that G42 is next and is the place where I will find something that will help greatly with that.
.: The Cost? :.
The academy costs $9,800 and includes all room and board, food, as well as flights to and from the middle three months practicum.
.: The Help? :.
I do need your help. As much as I would love to say I am able to cover it, I can’t because I don’t have it. I can’t do this on my own which is a great indication that this must be a God thing. And by choosing to obey the call to go to Spain earlier than I planned, it is my way of not trying to take on this task on my own and show God how much I am willing to trust and obey Him.
