They are everywhere here.
They have been everywhere.
Sitting down.
Indian style.
Gold. White.
Pink or Red lips.
Eyes slightly closed.
Nice eyelashes.
Head slightly bowed.
BIG SIZE.
small size.
Medium size.

They are either in shops or stores.
They can also be in temples.
Or in the corner of a street.
They can be on the dashboard of the taxi we get in.
Or they can even be in the living room of the home we rented for the month.

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

Can you guess what I am talking about?!? Yes! That’s right! The statues of Buddha.

And where they are, I can guarantee you will find people walking around them, looking at them, or taking pictures of them (yeah, yeah, I know: I am one of those people, but I HAD to take their pics for the purpose of this blog. So it is strictly business. Haha). What bothers me the most though when I see them is this: the people bowing down worshiping them.

I absolutely DO NOT understand it! Every time I see them, without fail, I ask myself why. Why are they bowing down to these statues? What are they getting out of it? Don’t they know that A MAN built those statues? Why are they worshiping something that was man-made? Or better yet, why are they worshiping something they bought from the store?

I guess that’s how God must have felt back in the Old Testament when the Israelites asked Aaron to build a god to worship, since Moses was “taking too long” (Exodus 32:1-6).

Now, let me give you a snippet into what my worship time with Jesus looks like. When I worship, one of my favorite positions is kneeling face down. Usually when I do that, I close my eyes and always see myself kneeling down at Jesus’ feet. All I see is his feet, and they are the most beautiful feet I’ve ever seen in my life! I can’t fully explain why it’s my favorite, but I think it is because I feel like at his feet is the best place to be. Plus, Jesus said so Himself (Luke 10:39).

However, one day last week during morning worship, I knelt down and closed my eyes like I usually do. Then to my surprise, I saw Jesus’ feet but they were gold like a statue’s gold. I thought, “Wait a minute, am I also worshiping a fake God like the others?” Same thing happened the next day and the day after that. I panicked, “Oh no! we are in trouble!” I need to nip this in the bud because I am slowly but surely starting to question if the God I am worshiping is real. I immediately thought of Moses, and how he got to see a glimpse of God’s glory. Therefore, I boldly asked God to show me His glory too! I knew deep down He was real, but in this moment I needed some extra faith.

He didn’t, at least not in the way I expected. Instead, later that week, I’m was getting ready to bow down and worship at his feet. In the middle of it, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I lifted my head and there He was. Jesus was right in front of me, slightly bowed. He reached down, pulled me up and started to dance with me. It was the most beautiful dance ever, and though I’m a pretty good dancer in real life, this dance was different. I danced with a grace and a skill that only happens when you are dancing with Jesus. Picture a number performed by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater but times 100!!! I was that good! At one point during the dance, He held my face with his two hands and intensely stared into my eyes. Gosh! I felt so loved. It was the best feeling ever and we continued to dance and dance.

This is to show you that God cares about who He is and never wants His children to be confused about His character. If you keep reading the 32nd chapter of the book of Exodus, verses 7 and 8 show that God did the exact same thing with me as He did with Moses. He hurried Moses to go down because He saw how the Israelites started worshiping the gods and was not liking it! He wants all of us to get it right and realize that He is GOD. There is none like Him. A God so big, so jealous. A God who is jealous for me, for you, for us. How could He not be? He loves us so much. He sent His only Son to die on the cross for us to regain that intimacy that He had before the fall of man (John 3:16). It is my prayer that as His children, when we go about our day and minister to people, may we never forget that the God we serve is a powerful and good God who loves us big time. May we make it our mission to share that truth with people as well.

By the way, in case you were wondering, I never saw that gold pair of feet ever again!!!
