What does the word “faith” really mean?  I think most people would agree that it’s really only used in a religious or spiritual context.  And when it’s in that context, for most people, it immediately turns them away from the word because it can be hard to believe in something we have never seen.  But, what if you removed the word Faith and inserted the word Trust instead?  Does that put more context into the expectation that He has for us?

For me, it does because now I can better wrap my mind around what that action looks like.  I can better understand that “Faith [Trust] is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see” Heb 11:1 NLT.   Now we have done this action to put our trust in people everyday!  So in some ways it should be easier to have faith in God and His promises because it is a part of life.  But I imagine there are a lot of people who would say that they have lost faith in God because He did not come through for them.  I’d like to let you in on a little secret…  God always comes through!  More often than not, He comes through in a way that we would NEVER expect.  And so, because we are so intently looking for the outcome or a specific solution that we desire, we completely miss that God has actually answered the prayer, adverted another issue that we may not have seen coming, and in the end answered the prayer in a way far better than we could have imagined. But the key is did you see it -OR- did you miss it????

Let me say it another way, I’ve been praying for a change in my life since last summer really.  I’ve wanted the ability to live more fulfilled, to effectively use my new found financial freedom for the kingdom, and the opportunity to truly invest in people.  We all yearn to use the gifts that God has blessed us with.  As things have evolved in my life over the last couple months, I expected that prayer to be answered with broadened opportunity in my current job, but as I prayed, I watched doors close left and right.  So much so that I went home from work early crying (with my sunglasses on trying to hide my tears) on April 22nd thinking “WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I GOING TO DO?!?!?!”.  Now there are a couple things that happened immediately after asking that question, but if I would have called out to God in anger, bitterness, and discontent, I’m SURE I would have missed the answer to my prayer.  Instead of change at work, God answered by delivering an opened door through a different path.  A path like none other, a path that is right up my alley, and path in the His perfect timing is better than I would have ever imagined.

So what does it look like to trust and have faith in God?  It looks like staying the course when it seems impossible to raise $5,000 in 2 weeks.  It looks like being excited in the future journey that He has promised to me.  It looks like cursing the Devil every time he tries to force doubt into my heart.  It looks like buying the gear for my trip as if the funds needed are already received.  It looks like being grateful for everything that God has done so far and all that He will do because I have “confidence that what I hope for [and what he has promised to me] will actually happen; it gives me assurance about things I cannot see”.  Because I know that when I fearlessly share my weaknesses with all of you that His strength will make me strong and His faithfulness will be exposed to the Glory of God.

If God has blessed you with a Word, a promise,  or a task TAKE HOLD OF IT, DON’T DOUBT, and walk out the action of FAITH in Him because He is greater than everything!
