A few days ago we went on a treasure hunt for our ministry. Our host told us that we were to spend 30 minutes in prayer asking the Lord to show us the “people treasures” that He wanted us to encourage and share Jesus with. He wanted us to go out in twos, so my lovely squad mate Kierstin and I teamed up.
We spent 30 minutes in prayer and felt God calling us to encourage women in the city through sharing how much they are loved by Jesus and that they’re beautiful. Kierstin received a vision of a woman sitting in front of a small shop with a child on her lap and yellow shoes. The Lord also spoke to me that we were to give women flowers as we encouraged them. The Lord specifically told me that we weren’t supposed to pay for the flowers but that He would provide them through someone else.
Kierstin and I talked about how God was calling us to step out in faith in believing that He would provide the flowers because He called us to give flowers. God called us to something and wanted us to trust that He would provide exactly what we needed.
We entered a flower shop and shared with the owner what we were trying to do and asked if he would give us some flowers for free. The shop owner looked very confused and told us he wouldn’t give us flowers for free. We left that shop and headed to the next flower shop not even feeling defeated because we knew God would provide flowers. Sure enough, at the next flower shop we found our flowers. The woman at the shop did not understand what we were asking for so she ran next door and grabbed a younger boy to translate for us. After sharing that we believed the Lord wanted us to give out flowers and that He was going to provide them through someone else, she agreed to let us take three flowers for free.
Kierstin and I were so excited and knew that there was purpose with us receiving three flowers. Both Kierstin and I felt called to give two of the flowers to two women we had met earlier that week. We were able to visit both women where they worked, give them the flowers and encouragement, and then pray over them and share a short part of the gospel.
After passing two of the flowers out we wanted to look for a woman with yellow shoes, holding a child, and sitting outside a small shop because of Kierstin’s vision from earlier. We set out to find this woman who God placed on Kierstin’s heart.
As we headed back to our home with one flower left, we were confident we would find the woman with yellow shoes. Without fail, we walked by a small shop that was close to where we were staying that had a woman sitting outside with a child on her lap and yellow on her shoes. We walked up to her all excited and shared how the Lord called us to give her a flower and encourage her. It was such a sweet moment of celebrating God’s goodness and intentionality in how He calls us to minister to His people and sharing Jesus’ faithfulness with the lady.
We left the woman with the yellow shoes full of joy and praising God for such an incredible treasure hunt.
This story is another testimony to God’s sovereignty and goodness. He places “people treasures” in our lives for a reason, and He gives us the chance to reach out and love them unconditionally.
I am grateful for our ministry host, and the various ministry opportunities we are taking part in. There will be many more treasure hunts to come and I am excited to step out in faith and trust God’s provision as we find our hidden treasures and share the kingdom with them.
