Hello everyone!! I am once again writing a post ahead of time, I just want to post in chronological order haha! This post is from what we did on Tuesday, 2/21/2017!
Let’s take a quick trip back in Meg’s life to summer of 2012 (this WILL make sense I promise!) I went on a service trip with my church to Providence, RI through AIM (funny how God hid the World Race from me lol). While on the trip, they taught us about this thing called “Treasure Hunts!” A “Treasure Hunt” is essentially a listening prayer to figure out where God wants you to go or who He wants you to find, etc. in order to serve them in some way! Those of us that were on the trip REALLY loved it! God led us on some super awesome adventures!
Fast forward to the present! Our host, Brian, had us do “Treasure Hunts,” to figure out where God wanted us that day! I wanted to pair up with someone not on my team just to continue to bond with other members of the squad, so I paired up with Leah and one of our squad leaders, Lo joined us as well! Lo kind of said she was just tagging along and this was Leah and my treasure hunt.
We did a listening prayer and got some things: the number “4,” the color “blue,” a “table lamp,” and a “carpet with red and gold flowers around the edge.” Trying to fit the pieces together, we thought maybe a furniture store?! We started to walk towards one that Leah knew, but when we got there, realized it was not it (it was closed). We also checked some other places with “4” in the title or if we saw “blue,” but weren’t finding anything.
We did find a flooring/carpeting store that had everything but the floor lamp in it so we talked and prayed for a woman in the store and we don’t think she fully understood what was happening or fully accepted it. Stumped, Lo suggested we go to the coffee shop down the street to kind of regroup and she offered to buy us coffee!
Outside of the coffee shop was a poster for an art gallery, which had tapestries in the picture, so I wrote the name of the place down, just in case we needed it for later. Right before we went inside, Lo said she felt that we needed to talk to the next “white person” that came in. Some of our squad were inside and we didn’t think it was them, but Lo prayed over them for guidance on their “treasure hunts!” (Fun fact, after Lo prayed over them, they found their “treasure!” Cool huh?!)
We then went inside (no white people) so we ordered drinks, talked a little, and tried to get new clues for the “Treasure Hunt.” I got a yellow scarf and had shared some previous items that I weren’t sure if God gave them to me or my mind created it (blue candy). As we were talking, this pretty blonde white girl walks in. We all looked at each other. Leah asked if maybe we should invite her to sit with us, and we kind of just looked at each other and ended up not inviting her.
Time passes by, we decided to move on so Lo went up to pay. When she went to pay, she looked at the blonde girl and saw a Bible out. Lo was super excited (it was a door to open conversation) so Lo started talking to her. Leah and I joined them and we found out that her name is Jolien, she is from The Netherlands, and was one of the leaders for the YWAM (Youth With A Mission) group that had been in Nepal for the past 6 weeks! We just talked to her and it was great! Lo offered to pray to her, told her that she felt God wanted us to talk to a “white person,” and she walked in! She accepted with excitement! Jolien gave us some specific prayers to pray for and then just general prayer she asked for as well!
After Lo finished praying, she asked to return the favor and pray for us! We were like, yes that would be awesome! She prayed a beautiful prayer (she’s only 19 y’all and is just so prophetic, it’s crazy!) As soon as she finished her prayer, she looked directly at me and asked, “are you passionate for women’s ministry?” I was shocked and Lo’s face was a great reaction of surprise and awe, because not 15 minutes prior, I was explaining to Lo how I felt God was calling me to women’s ministry while in Nepal. I have even been writing “Captivating,” on my arm in sharpie (well, Rachel has been writing it, I can’t write on my arm lol) and Lo had asked about my “fake tattoo,” which is what started the conversation! I had told the girl that I felt that God had been putting it on my heart, and she just said, “yeah God wanted me to tell you that,” so I took that as just another confirmation that it IS something relevant and very real that God wants me to do this month (and possibly for the rest of the Race too!)
It was crazy, like in a super good way! About 20 minutes later when my group started walking again, Lo looked at me and she was like, “how great were those words that the girl gave you?” I was like “weird, but in a good way, like I feel so good! It’s just another confirmation to do women’s ministry!”
It was just a super awesome experience and even though we never quite found what we thought we were looking for, God definitely led us to a great “treasure!”
Thanks for reading, God Bless!
