Sometimes things kind of suck on the World Race.

Sometimes you feel ridiculously lonely even though you’re surrounded by people all the time.

Sometimes you miss your friends and family and it seems like nothing can fill the space that they have taken in your life.

Sometimes your bus breaks down in one of the most dangerous countries and you’re stuck there in the middle of the night.

Sometimes a four hour travel day turns into an eleven hour travel day.

Sometimes you see a bone thin disabled man on the dirt floor of a hut and cannot stop thinking about it for weeks.

Sometimes you have to miss Thanksgiving and Christmas and all of the wonderful traditions you have done with the people you love every year of your life since the day you were born.

Sometimes you just miss the U.S. and want a really really good burger and fries.

Sometimes a tree falls on the house you were staying and destroys the room your team is supposed to be in.

Sometimes there is a choir really fat rats in your ceiling that won’t stop jumping around at 1AM.

Sometimes you have to wake up at four in the morning to get ready for the day.

BUT

Sometimes things are amazing!!!!!!

Sometimes you connect with people you never expected to be friends with.

Sometimes when you’re friends are sledding in the snow you end up sledding down a volcano instead. That’s BOSS.

Sometimes you get to see someone accept Jesus Christ for the first time.

Sometimes you get to experience this crazy God-given joy while taking part in a ministry that would have made you want to hide in a hole a few months ago.

Sometimes you get to relax for a few hours reading on a hot day in a hammock hanging from a pair of coconut trees.

Sometimes you end up on a boat ride and get to feed and hold a wild monkey named Lucy.

Sometimes you get to eat the world’s best Christmas breakfast and huddle up in a blanket drinking apple cider while watching The Grinch with fourteen amazing people.

Sometimes you’re overwhelmed by the Lord’s provision when the place you were staying in was literally crashing down.

Sometimes you get to laugh with hundreds of high schoolers and get them to sing and dance to the Banana Song in English.

Sometimes you get to drink the best coffee you’ve ever had.

Sometimes you get to having countless meaningful conversations.

Sometimes you make up a funny song about crocodiles with your Costa Rican friend.

Sometimes you find out that you will be able to see one of your best friends at a layover in California.

Sometimes you are overwhelmed by how grateful people are for the projects you have been working on.

Things can get crazy and extremely hard. But God is good and God is faithful. He knows your heart and He knows what you need…so go to Him! Let Him pour into you. Honestly even though sometimes life on the World Race can seem absolutely nuts, it’s worth all the trouble it has been. Serving God and serving others is worth the cost.
