On the race, and in life, I think we get into this mindset that ministry is something we go to. Something that has a start and end time. Something that our hosts ask us to do or be a part of. It is structured and has boundaries or limitations. But the God we serve doesn’t fit into a box. He is outside of time and space and doesn’t always fit into our schedule.

This month ministry was only a few hours a week, so we could have spent our “free time” doing any number of things, but the Lord showed me that ministry is a lifestyle. The way we live our lives should reflect Christ and should be a witness to others.

We were able to spend our free time exploring Quito with some of the guys from Cumbre Alta. They showed us their city and their hearts and invited us into their lives and homes. We were able to live life with them.

We saw the city from their point of view and I learned why Quito is the best city in the world.

Quito, la mejor ciudad del mundo, porque la ciudad es muy bonita y las personas son muy grandiosa.

We explored their favorite places and did plenty of touristy things. It didn’t matter what we were doing, just that we were doing it together.

We went to the equator, got sprayed with foam for Carnaval, cheered on a local soccer team (which may or may not be the best team in Quito), ate ceviche, and laughed so hard my cheeks hurt. They even cooked for us!

Daniel made us dinner. Nothing like a family dinner and movie night to make you feel at home on the race.

Meji and my victory pizza. Doesn’t he look sad to see us leave?

Ministry this month looked like hanging out with new friends and basking in the goodness of the Father together. It was so incredible to see how God is moving in their lives and what He is calling them into. He has given them so much vision for their city and country and I was blown away by their heart for the Father. We were able to encourage them as they step out in faith and walk in obedience. I am so grateful for these new brothers and I am excited to see how God uses them to further His kingdom.
