Today, we bought 18 water bottles using the funds that people donated to us through our GoFundMe. Earlier in the day, we had written out notes in Greek that said “This water is from Jesus. He loves you and He sees you.” We attached the notes to the water bottles and went on a prayer walk through the streets looking for people to give them to. It just so happened to be one of the hottest days of the week (high 90’s), and we were able to give water bottles to some homeless men and women, a city worker picking up trash, and a refugee couple and their three small children (who literally ran to us when they saw that we were carrying water). Back in Albania, I listened to a podcast on Matthew 5. “As salt of the earth,” the pastor had said, “we are called to be such salty salt that those around us become so parched and thirsty that the only thing that satisfies them is the True Living Water.” The conversations we held with people today were a combination of hand motions and broken English; they were short conversations, if they happened at all. And the people who got the water bottles may have thrown away those notes; we’ll never know. But I do know that they read the name of Jesus, and I do know that He knows their story and is the Ultimate Pursuer. Hopefully, today made those people a bit more thirsty for Living Water.
