People ask all the time, how are you going to raise nearly $17,000 in order to get going on this trip. I have had to raise money before for other mission trips and struggled raising $3,500. My financial goal is nearly five times as much as the cost of my last trip, how in the world am I going to be capable of acquiring that kind of money!? Well, my faith is ten fold what it was before and my belief in people wanting to be a part of the journey is a key source of passion for achieving my funding goals. I don’t only want people to fund me, I want them to be a PART of this trip. I know in today’s world there are many factors. Some people don’t like the idea of traveling, some people can’t travel because of jobs, families, or other commitments, and some people just haven’t gotten where they would want to be spiritually or financially in order to go on a trip like this. That is where people develop a passion to assist in sending others like myself. However, this is 2016 (and it will be 2017 by then) and people don’t like to necessarily just ‘give’ money without anything in return.
The Lord has put this thought heavy on my heart during the time of brainstorming for ideas on fundraising. This is how He instilled an idea in me. It wasn’t until one day I was scrolling through InstaGram at #theworldrace hashtags that I came across a fundraising idea called “buy a box”. In this method, people would make a grid on a poster board, numbering the squares inside from 1-100. People buy these squares, each box number resembling the price and then the racer would just color in the square that was purchased. The supporters are just paying to black out a square, instead, why not give them that square with their picture in it, and on top of that invite them to be a part of the trip. Now how could you give a piece of the trip back without spending hundreds of dollars on souvenirs in each country? That is where the idea “Buy a Day” got launched into my thoughts. Why not write individuals on individual days? It’s personal, it’s beneficial to me to share the story while it’s still being written, and it involves the supporter in the journey they are assisting in funding, as well as praying for spiritually.
God is good, all the time. There are already a handful of days sold as I wrap up the first week of having the fundraiser. As I cover up the bulletin board with people covering the map, I can’t help but praise the Lord for the people in our every day lives that are willing and able to give. If I can give back to people that are able to give to me, I believe that is just the start of this ‘work’ I’ve been called to. We’re all in this together, as cheesy as it sounds.
If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing a day, just shoot me an email at [email protected] to reserve a date, and simply come back to this page to donate the price that I’ll reply to you 🙂 Thank you! God Bless.
