Because I have heard God’s call into my life I have chosen to be obedient to His direction. However, this is anything but an individual exercise in my own independence! I have mailed out Support Letters to many friends and family with different ways they can support my squad and I for the next 18 months! I have decided to paste it below for the interwebs enjoyment
this rounds out my very complete blogging series Who, What, Where, When, Why and How (get it?! oh yeah).
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope this letter finds you well! Since my graduation from Portland State University I have been working at United Cerebral Palsy with adults who experience Developmental Disabilities. I have completed a post-graduate certificate program in Trauma-Informed Services to better serve vulnerable populations and I plan to return to school to earn my Master’s degree in Social Work soon. First, however, I have been called and accepted into a program with Adventures in Missions called The World Race that launches January 2017.
Blame technology or pop culture or extremist politics – we can all agree that the World is in pain. Through my education, previous missions to Tijuana and Democratic Republic of Congo and my own life’s twists and turns, God has continually showed me the healing power of listening before speaking, witnessing before fixing, and apologizing before explaining. This planet, our brains, our hearts and our souls were created for something more, and I believe that God has called all of us to widen and deepen our short experience of life on this Earth into more.
The World Race is an 11 month mission trip through 11 countries. It centers on living in real, honest and vulnerable community with other Jesus followers and working with God to bring his Kingdom into our present day and age. We will be working through local partners in fields, at orphanages, inside coffee shops, outside clubs and with churches to both teach and learn more about Jesus on Earth.
I would like to extend an invitation to join in my response. An entire year of expenses (rent, food, transportation) is a lot of money to raise! Add up everything it takes to live in America for one year… And then divide it in half because I’ll be camping in Asia, not battling the rising housing market of Portland. For updates on this journey, I will be writing at hannahreid.theworldrace.org!
Please see the attached sheet to discover the many types of support my squad and I would love to receive from you – and to see what you can get in return!
Sincerely,
Hannah Reid
