Fun facts : El Salvador

Hello – Hola

Bye – Adios

Currency = USD

They use US dollar coins too. Hey Sacajawea!

Exchange rate $1 = $1 (duh)

El Salvador is known for their paupusas. It’s a little pocket of goodness. They are tortillas stuffed with beans and cheese. Sometimes they get fancy and do other things inside of them but I like the OG beans and cheese.

( Tons of Paupusas.)

They eat mostly beans, rice, plantains, and thick corn tortillas.

People pay around $80 per month for a good education in a private school.

Most of the public schools are dangerous because they are run by the gangs. No one is safe when they go to public school or work there.

We got to go to this natural spring swimming hole. All the water comes down from the top of the volcano. So cool… no literally. It was freezing cold!!

(There were so many waterfalls.)

Mi casa kids sponsorship is $80 a month.

Here is the website to learn more about donating.

(They are the sweetest, most deserving kids I have ever met in my life. Please send them you love, prayers, and money!)

You can buy fresh coconut water on the side of the road for 80 cents.

Doorbells are buzzers. They sound kinda like a stun gun.

I bought fresh juice from a wonderful lady in the park everyday after my run. It was only $1.50 for almost a gallon size bag full. I miss this so much.

El Salvador has many similarities to Mexico compared to other Central American countries.

November 1st is el Dia de los muertes. November second is when the real celebration happens though.

El Salvador is on the top 10 do not travel to countries for US citizens. It’s one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

El Salvador has a gang and drug trafficking problem.

There are two large Gangs in El Salvador.

The kids would call my team mate Shannon “China Wok”. HAHAHA!

(That is also the name of a restaurant in town.)

The beach we took all the kids to was a black sand beach.

(As you can see in this photo.)

While at the beach we got to hold and release baby sea turtles into the ocean. This was one of the best days of my life!

Although El Salvador gets a bad rap it is a beautiful country with many extremely nice people. I look forward to the next time I get to visit. I pray it’s soon!

(Some of my besties.)

This is my last ‘Fun Facts’ blog for my WorldRace trip. I can’t believe it’s over. Thank you for reading! I have more blogs on the way I promise!

XOXO,
