“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; Only love can do that.” -Martin Luther King
I drive a Subaru, I eat granola, outside is always where I would always rather be, I don’t like guns, I’m a registered independent, I believe in animal rights, I’m a lover of all things organic, I’m an avid kombucha drinker, I’m an essential oil user — You can go ahead and call me a hippy freak. I’m not ashamed. Ok, I’m glad we got that out in the open before you read the rest of this blog.
“We must use time wisely & forever realize that the time is always ripe to do good” -Nelson Mandela
Honestly, since being out of America for the last 8, almost 9, months I haven’t kept up with politics at all. I know Trump is our president and I need to keep America in my prayers but that’s about it. No wifi hasn’t helped and it has actually been nice to just be oblivious for awhile.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love being in the know and I care about my country.
That is why I wanted to write this blog. I have had wifi this month in Nepal so I saw what happened in Charlottesville.
I saw the photo of young white man beside young white man going back as far as the camera could see holding tiki torches and illuminating darkness. I don’t mean illuminating darkness like making it light. I mean they were making the night darker with their presence. They oozed darkness. They radiated hate.
A team mate of mine read this verse from Isaiah the other day in Bible study.
Isaiah 50:11 ESV “Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who equip yourselves with burning torches! Walking by the light of your fire, and by the torches you have kindled! This you have from my hand, you shall lie down in torment.”
Automatically the picture of the men with Tiki torches were brought to mind. They have made a fire for themselves. They have equipped themselves with ideas that do not align with God. They are walking on a path that they have illuminated for themselves. God says that if you walk by the torches you have kindled yourself then you will lie down in torment. Not because God is a mean God but because you are so far from him and you are really working with the devil. They have made agreements with demons.
We were all created by the same God. He created each one of us, raised us up before his eyes to inspect his craftsmanship and called us each good. God has never created a mess up or a mistake. When Psalm 139 says “you are fearfully and wonderfully made” it is not being exclusive. It doesn’t say “only you white male are wonderfully made”. It’s talking about all of Gods creation.
I realize that these people will never read this blog. They might never fully understand the love of Jesus and decide to live out of the overflow. But as brothers and sisters we have to raise awareness and strive to call people higher.
I pray that if you have feelings in your heart that other people are lesser than you that you would take time to pray against it. You don’t have to live your life with these feelings.
We all deserve to walk in freedom.
Xo,
EM
America is not a lost cause. We serve a mighty God that answers BIG prayers and does miraculous works. Continue praying for our country.
