This has been my first birthday to be away from home and I was so blessed to be surrounded by my WorldRace family. My team planned a fantastic surprise for me on the eve of my birthday. They booked a night in a traditional Swazi beehive at Nisela! They told me to pack all my things and we headed off to the bus stop to catch a comby. We got to Nisela and got the keys to our beehives. They were the cutest little keys you ever did see for the smallest doors you ever could crawl through. No really— you have to crawl on your hands and knees to get inside. Once we were in the hives there were beds (which I haven’t had all month), electricity, and a fan which was made all the more eclectic by the thatching that inclosed the hive! I think it was probably the coolest place I have ever slept. Once we were unpacked, my team took me up to the restaurant and bought me dinner! We had great conversation over great food.  I got a veggie burger, fries, a coke, and carrot cake! What a dream! This was also the first time I was able to buy wifi to talk to my parents all month which was such a blessing. We ended the night with a movie and girl time!

I woke up the next morning a 22 year old in a beehive- IN SWAZILAND! I got a chocolate milkshake for breakfast, had a real shower with water pressure and a smudge of hot water (praise), talked to my family one last time, hitch hiked in the back of a pick up truck to church, enjoyed a day of relaxation, and ended the day with homemade tortillas and chicken fajitas for dinner made by some of my best friends, plus they bought me a piece of birthday cake and sang to me!!   I will remember my 22nd birthday for the rest of my life. I am so thankful for all the people that made my day so fantastic and special.

Cheers to my 22nd year of life!

Xoxo,

Emily

P.s. Thank you to everyone who donated $22 to my WorldRace account in honor of my birthday! I am only $600 away from being fully funded because of you! I am only able to do this because of my financial supporters. You guys mean so much to me!
