Okay, so God is doing much work in me this month. Let’s just say, I am not the same person with the same beliefs I was a month ago. Definitely not before starting this crazy World Race thing in general.
So lets talk about something God has reveled in my heart. Being present in the moment. This is a really big struggle for me. I want to know what the future holds. Always….
Here is what Gods word says:
Matthew 6:31-6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.””
Most of my common questions on the race are: What are we doing tomorrow? How long is the bus ride we are taking next month? Flight to Africa after Peru is how long? Things that are months in advance. While in college, I was concerned for my next class. What is the full breakdown of classes? How long until the next level? If I save XXX amount, will I have enough for food? What about my retirement as I am turning 30 this year? Need to start saving now; true?
I am not saying we should not set goals, or plan for future events. I did put money aside to do extra activities on the race. God does not want me to focus on the future. He wants me to be here right now. I need to learn to focus on what God wants me to do and not what I want my future to be. Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
For the future, I cannot focus on what money I will have, career I will keep, funds I can manage. God is a saverign God. My faith must be in hi My prayer is for God to forgive me for all the times I did not focus on him. I focus on my future self.
The Present moment is much better, in comparison to the future. Enjoy it! Live for it!
