Getting to Port Dickson was an adventure in and of itself and our eventful travel day ended with a selfless, kind woman making sure we had cab drivers to get us safely to our hotel. Upon meeting our cab drivers we decided to ask them if they were willing to drive us throughout our entire stay. They agreed, so each time we ventured out, they were our drivers. Little did I know this was God-ordained.

Our team split three and three and I felt very drawn to the driver I was with the first night, so I made sure I went with him every time, which allowed us to build relationship as we traveled from place to place. We talked about life, asked each other questions, and quickly built a friendship. He pronounced my name Pecky, which was so sweet and funny and something my team and I could always laugh about.

Our new friends were protective of us. They were worried whenever we were out after dark to the extent that one night they turned down other people who asked them to drive because they wanted to look around the area where they had dropped us off to try and find us and make sure we were safe. After that, out of respect for them, we made sure we were in before dark.

My driver told us we were different and said, “Every day helping with you people is a good day.” It was such a blessing to me that they enjoyed watching out for us.

For our adventure day, our drivers had specific places they wanted to show us, so we let them take the reigns and introduce us to the places they thought we’d love most. They started out by taking us to a resort just so we could look around and see the beauty, but it ended up being our first and final stop, because we had the joy of spending some extra time there and blessing them with a meal!

On our last day together we shared coffee with our drivers before heading out. As we drove to the train station, we talked more in depth about God. My driver, who was Hindu, shared about his beliefs saying, “You do the good and god will give you the good.” My friends and I spoke into our beliefs and asked him questions about his, but I couldn’t help but feel unsettled as we continued to drive and prepared for our final goodbye. I didn’t feel like we were done.

That’s when I knew God was telling me to give this man my bible. I opened it and wrote on the inside of the front cover something along the lines of, “My friends and I love Jesus and we hope you read this and find him too.” I also included how thankful we were to get to know him.

As we got out of the cab for the final time, I handed him my bible and when I let him know it was a gift, he sincerely thanked me. My prayer is that he finds Jesus within the pages of that bible and that he is transformed by the perfect love of the one true God. I would be honored if you would join me in prayer for this man. Who would’ve thought that our sweet cab drivers would’ve been my favorite highlight, not only of the city of Port Dickson, but of all of Malaysia. And believe me, Malaysia had a fair share of highlights. Our cab drivers were special.
