I have spent eight months on the field, six of which I was around children that had lice and I have never gotten it. Until now.
This month we are working with two orphanages. They are ran by the same organization, one is for children with disabilities the other, is for children with out disabilities.
We have been doing a VBS type of program with each orphanage. We have a bible lesson, do a craft, play some games, and usually one of us shares our testimony.
It has been a blast getting to know all of these sweet kids!
Our host has been amazing. She let us spend a day at the park and a day at the pool with them!
We noticed a few days into working with the girls that they all have lice. I am sure they have had it for a long time, due to how bad it is. Last time one of the girls had lice, her dad found out and shaved her head. In order to keep that from happening again, my team and I have started lice treatments! The first day we treated their hair we asked them to bring their shampoo, conditioner, and a brush into the bathroom so we could brush through it before we put the small nit comb through it. They brought in this small brush that resembles one that would come in a box with a barbie doll. That is what they brush their hair with….all 12 all of them share this one brush. I think I had the same one when I was little and it was for the one and only doll I had. They also do not have conditioner, so after we put the lice shampoo in their hair it is so hard to brush out afterward.
We have felt God put it on our hearts to leave each chid, boy and girl, with a care package on our last day of ministry. We would like to give them their own bottle of shampoo and conditioner, a lice treatment package (in case it comes back again), deodorant, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products for the girls, a brush with their name on it, and a sweet treat to bring it all together.
Unfortunately, we are not able to do this with our limited World Race budget so I am asking for your help, once again. We are aiming to raise $30 per child, $600 total.
We have until August 16th to raise the funds so we can go out purchase all items, bag them up, and hand them out before we leave on the 22nd.
Thank you so much for getting me here! If it wasn’t for all of you I would not be meeting all of these sweet children!
