“We have been rescued by Jesus, so it’s our job to share him with others so they may be rescued also.”
These are the words that our host spoke to us while sharing some of the wildest stories him and his organization have been apart of.
Our time in Nepal was been spent working with an organization that rescues women who have been trafficked, or abused throughout their life. Their goal is to teach them tangible skills (cooking, cleaning, sewing etc.) they can use to start a life through legitimate business, and introduce them to the hope that lies in Christ. Him and his family are a bright example of what it looks like to serve one another in love, and my team and I, had the amazing opportunity to be immersed into an environment where love is contagious.
Every Friday afternoon we had something called “Shabbat Shalom,” which means peace on the day of the Sabbath. It was a time of fellowship amongst one another, with dinner, laughter, and someone sharing a word and some testimonies. Among many unforgettable moments, this was my favorite thing we were involved in this month. In our hosts home, him and his family house 15 of the women they rescued, and we got the opportunity to sit elbow to elbow with them, and be their sisters in Christ. There were children running around the living room doing what kids do, and they all allow them to express their freedom by jumping from sofa to sofa and playing tag. It was incredible to see women and men allow kids to be kids.
When it came time to share the word of God, the kids would be sprawled out on the ground asleep, or the older ones would be attentively listening to what was being said. I loved when we would close in prayer and our host would allow the children to pray for us. Hearing them pray with innocence and authentic love for Christ was astounding. With their little hands clasped together, and eyes shut to tightly, it was hard not to fall in love with these little warriors for Christ.
What the Lord laid on my heart at the beginning of the month was the word servant. I didn’t know what he had in store but by the end of our time in Nepal, I had definitely figured it out. He wanted to take a month to show me time and time again, what it meant to serve on another in love, and what that looks like in a Christ centered home. I learned so much and I will always cherish the memories he gave me in Nepal.
Love,
Alisha
