The first four months of the Race have been so different from each other; teaching in schools, sharing the Gospel from door to door in villages, praying with people in their homes, putting on skits and preaching in muddy clearings, doing construction on a children’s home, delivering Christmas gifts to thousands of children, and asking the Lord daily what He has in store for the hours ahead.
In each of those months there have been moments where I’ve felt overwhelmed with the hurt in this world. It’s easy to feel helpless under the weight of the pain, suffering, and darkness we see around us. In that helpless place it feels like I can’t make a difference. In that helpless place it feels like darkness is closing in rapidly and choking out the light. It feels like my grasps for goodness are futile and foolish.
But Abba is reminding me that though it may feel like I am too small to make a difference, my part in this Story matters. My willingness to fight darkness with Truth, Love, and Peace matters. My try matters.
Jesus is showing me how much my try really does matter through specific friendships in each place I’ve called home over the last four months. In Costa Rica it was Luciano. In Nicaragua it was Conni. In Honduras it was Michel. In Guatemala it was sweet Dora.
The Lord is gifting me something so special here; the reminder that loving just one person with the Love of Christ is important. It matters. It makes a difference in the Story of our world.
For the rest of my race I’ll continue to ask the Lord at the beginning of each month, “Abba, who is it this month? Who do you want me to see? Who do you want me to focus in on? Who do you want to show extra love and care for in this place?” And I know He’ll show me, because His heart is for the people of this world.
I want to challenge you to believe that your try matters. I want to challenge you to ask the Lord, “God, what can I do right now, right here? Who do you want me to love? Who do you want me to really see? Who’s the One?”
You can trust Him to answer. And you can trust Him to send a whole lot of love and goodness your way through the people you meet.
