I’m in Jordan right now about to finish month 5 with expedition Z squad. We are training and raising up new leaders to oversee the squad when we go home in two weeks. It’s been a fruitful time out here discipling and pouring into this squad. We’ve shared Jesus with refugees in Paris, brought healing to pilgrims on El Camino, loved university students in Morocco, worked on vineyards and hotels in Cyprus, and this month we’ve been able to visit the homes of Syrian refugees and provide them mattresses and heaters to survive the winter.
Every season has its challenges and celebrations. There were difficulties coming back as an alumni leader, but the beautiful moments far outweigh the difficult ones. Being able to join others in their growth is one of my favorite things. I got to help closed off people trust others for the first time in years. I witnessed people grow in vulnerability, evangelism, long-suffering, freedom, gifts of Holy Spirit, the list goes on. It was humbling, challenging, incredible!
As to what’s next…I’ve accepted a position on staff at Adventures in Missions for 2018! I will be the squad leader for world race expedition. What this means is I’m the staff member on the field with the squads to disciple, empower, and model the heart of what world race expedition stands for. Expedition puts a huge emphasis on things like discipleship, pioneering unreached regions, adventure, church planting, and individuals walking in their gifts, and I love that I get to be part of it.
This year will have its challenges just like the last, but I know the calling Papa has placed on my life. He has called me to empower and activate my generation in their passions and giftings. He’s called me to abandon my life; to adventure, to live with minimal belongings, to show the love of Christ, to help people find freedom, to serve the nations. When I was thinking about why I continue to serve overseas, the lyrics to a song came into my head: “my heart is the wick, Your Love is the flame, and I wanna burn for Your name.” That’s it. I want to burn for His name. I don’t want my life to be mine. I want it to be His.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the past year and a half. I’ve been so thankful for the prayers from everyone back home.
