Here are a few pictures from our LDW (Leadership Development Weekend) at Moorlands Camp in Jamaica, a few from our travel day adventure, and a bit about our time in Haiti so far…
This LDW was one of the most relaxing that I’ve had on the Race so far. Our Raised-up Squad Leaders and a few Racers were able to pour out wisdom and encouragement through teachings; As a squad, we were able to worship and celebrate all that the Lord has done in this journey; Our fun-track leaders got creative and did human “Guess Who” with our passport photos; AND we were blessed with awesome hospitality by the family who calls Moorlands “home” and their wonderful staff.
Travel day was a long one, including our first night slept State-side since August. My team ordered Papa Johns to the Ft. Lauderdale airport once we arrived on Wednesday night and set up camp by one of the baggage claims in Terminal 3. We put the airport scenario from training camp to good use and got a few hours of shut eye on our sleeping pads before going through security the next morning for our 6:30am flight.
We made it to Haiti on Thursday and were met with a wave of heat and Ezekiel with a sign welcoming us to Haiti. The rest of the day was given to us to rest and then a quick orientation that evening to hear more about our ministry. Part of our ministry this month will be serving a short-term missions team from Minnesota for the week that they are here in Haiti (They arrive on Wednesday).
Preparing for their arrival included painting the kitchen area of the guest house (done on Saturday) and tomorrow we’ll be doing a clean sweep of the house. While they’re with us, we’ll be working at an orphanage, painting and doing other odds and ends.
We’re excited to work with a group from so close to home and to share in their missions experience! Once they head back to the States, we’ll move into another orphanage for the remainder of our time in Haiti and serve there.
Looking forward to what this next week has in store! Please pray for this team, that they have safe travels and experience all God has for them on this trip. Also for my team – Haiti is a spiritually dark place and although we’ve been blessed with a safe haven in Jesus Way’s guest house, we want to continue to ask for our prayer warriors back home to cover us in prayer as we work to push back the darkness and bring light into the lives of those we come into contact with. Pray for guidance, discernment and boldness and we go forward with the Gospel!
